The Aaron Rodgers situation has gone from interesting to perplexing to straight-up exasperating. With most free agents off the board and almost all quarterbacks signed to new contracts, the four-time MVP remains one of the few players still unsigned.
After a disgraceful end to his time with the New York Jets, the search for Rodgers went in multiple directions. Teams like the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers threw their names in the hat, but nothing has materialized yet. Now, a former teammate of Rodgers believes a different team might win the race.

Aaron Rodgers, Welcome to New Orleans
Coming off arguably the worst season of his NFL career—where he posted career lows in passer rating and yards per attempt while leading the Jets to just five wins—Rodgers was always going to have to find the right fit.
But through the first month of free agency, no deal has come through. While the Steelers have seemed like the frontrunner, Will Blackmon believes the New Orleans Saints make the most sense.
“I’m going to say Aaron Rodgers. Listen, the name’s back out there, I’d say bring Aaron Rodgers for that reason—to bring in a veteran presence,” Blackmon said. “Right now, what they’re trying to do—they literally lost a franchise quarterback, or are potentially losing one. I’mma go get Aaron Rodgers.”

He ended with a clear and logical thought. “If he wants to play, man, I’m calling him all day long.” As a former Super Bowl champ and one of the best to ever do it, Rodgers still holds weight—at least in the right system.
The Saints’ need became even more pressing when reports surfaced about Derek Carr’s shoulder injury possibly requiring surgery and sidelining him for the entire 2025 season.
Blackmon, who played with Rodgers in Green Bay during the late 2000s, doesn’t just want the Saints to think short-term. He also thinks the 2025 NFL Draft might be where they find a longer-term answer.
“I would go get a quarterback like Jalen Milroe. He did have a private workout with the Saints. Kellen Moore (the new New Orleans head coach) was just with Jalen Hurts, and very, very similar comp for me in terms of what they [Milroe and Hurts] can do.”
Rodgers is also coming off an Achilles tear in 2023 and wasn’t himself last year, finishing 21st in PFSN’s QB+ metric. There’s a reason the Jets—who haven’t had stable QB play in decades—were ready to move on. Would the Saints be willing to take that risk?
