Former New York Giants and, most recently, Miami Dolphins, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was the face of the Madden video game franchise for a season, and the accomplishment encapsulated the state of his career in the mid-2010s. However, it had been a while since he enjoyed that level of success.
It was clear that the wideout had been playing near the cutting point for some time, but one analyst has perhaps said the conclusion that many had quietly arrived at.
Chris Simms Delivers the Cold, Hard Truth to Odell Beckham Jr.
Speaking on the June 2nd edition of “Pro Football Talk,” NFL analyst Chris Simms declared Beckham Jr.’s career to be over.
“Where we are now, it seems like it’s over for Odell Beckham Jr. in his career. It was an awesome run, but I don’t think it hit the maximization or the full potential [of] what it fully could be, because maybe some of the issues he started [and] some injuries there with the Giants as well.”
The Giants star hasn’t appeared to have officially hung it up yet, although there is a sea of speculation amid his recent slump and advanced age. The wide receiver, who is still a free agent, will be 32 years old at the start of the 2025 season.
Last season, the wide receiver played in nine games for the Dolphins, but caught just nine passes for 55 yards with a long of only 11 yards, the shortest of his career. At this point, all signs point to the wide receiver wrapping up his time in the league, but there could still be reason to hope for one last taste in 2025.
Last Chance Landing Spots for Beckham Jr.
Looking at the market, there are many receivers available with a stronger argument than Beckham Jr., but with the receiver seemingly not yet ready to throw in the towel, there are some places that he might be able to snag a tryout.
The New England Patriots, a division rival of the Dolphins, are still in the process of figuring out their wide receiver room. If they arrive at the conclusion that they need another veteran with experience playing for a rival, Beckham Jr. makes some sense.
The Houston Texans went all out to add veteran Stefon Diggs in 2024. The Texans could attempt to go the route of adding another veteran, but this time it would be the opposite level of investment.
As Adam Thielen’s continued presence indicates, the Carolina Panthers are not afraid of using older receivers. Beckham Jr. makes sense as a depth piece if he can keep up with the younger players. The Panthers have also signed Hunter Renfrow, so they’re apparently not afraid to take some risks.
There’s also a few others, some of which Beckham prefers, at least according to a story NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero wrote in December 2024. This includes the Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Kansas City Chiefs.
