Tetairoa McMillan made Offensive Rookie of the Year a receiver’s award again in 2025. The question now is whether a rookie wideout can go back-to-back in 2026.
It has happened recently. Ja’Marr Chase and Garrett Wilson won the award in consecutive years in 2021 and 2022. On PFSN’s Football Debate Club, the hunt for the next one kept circling two names: Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson.

Ian Cummings made his case with a number.
“The average draft capital of the last four receivers to win offensive rookie of the year [is] 8.75,” Cummings said. “So that basically narrows it down to Tate and Tyson.”
The math checks out. Odell Beckham Jr. (No. 12), Ja’Marr Chase (No. 5), Garrett Wilson (No. 10) and McMillan (No. 8) average out to the No. 8.75 pick. Tate went No. 4 to Tennessee and Tyson No. 8 to New Orleans, the two highest-drafted receivers in the class.
Within that pair, Cummings leaned on availability and projection.
“He has a better track record of availability than Tyson year over year,” Cummings said. “He has the most translatable skill set in the entire class. He was my wide receiver one, a blue chip [talent], elite separator, elite catch point operator.”
The opportunity matches the talent. Tate was the first receiver off the board, and the Titans drafted him to be Cam Ward’s No. 1 target. That is the recipe Offensive Rookie of the Year voters reward, a true WR1 role with the volume that follows, now with a second-year quarterback who should take a step forward.
Jordyn Tyson’s Case and the Durability Question
Alec Elijah stayed on the Tate-versus-Tyson thread, then flipped it.
“I kind of like Tyson in this argument,” Elijah said. “Yes, Olave is going to be there, so obviously that’s a mouth to feed. But Kellen Moore had Tyler [Shough] as an Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist. And this offense is really built for receivers to shine.”
The Shough point lands. Moore’s rookie quarterback finished as an OROY finalist in 2025, evidence the system produces. Tyson is a natural scorer who accelerates off the line, and with Chris Olave pulling coverage, the touchdowns could come in bunches.
The catch is health.
“If Tyson can work on the durability issues, which obviously was his biggest red flag, there’s no doubt that he can be in the running,” Elijah said.
That is the debate in one sentence. Tyson missed time with a hamstring in 2025 and a collarbone in 2024, and Olave will still command his share of the targets. A rookie cannot win the award from the sideline.
That is where this splits from the landing-spot question. Tyson may have walked into the better situation, but Offensive Rookie of the Year rewards raw volume and the counting stats that follow, and Tate’s cleaner availability record and clear No. 1 projection give him the steadier path. If he stays healthy, Tyson can crash the race in a hurry. The safer bet to make it two straight rookie receivers, though, is the one who does not have to beat his own injury history first. That is Tate.
