Who Are the Best Running Backs To Draft in Fantasy?
De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins
Not only is De’Von Achane one of the most polarizing players of the 2024 season, he’s one of the most important. Being on the right side of the Achane debate has the potential to swing leagues.
Last season, Achane averaged 17.3 fantasy points per game and finished as the overall RB5 despite touching the ball just 11.8 times per game. That type of efficiency, while incredible, is also unsustainable.
As talented and explosive as Achane is, he’s not going to average 7.7 yards per touch again. On just 130 total touches, he scored 11 touchdowns. That, too, is unsustainable.

On the one hand, Achane is clearly an elite talent. Historically, running backs that perform like he did on limited volume see an increase in volume the following season.
On the other hand, Achane is 188 pounds. What if, due to his size, he doesn’t see more work? What if he does and can’t hold up? Achane missed six games as a rookie. What if he’s the same guy he was last season, except without the 51.3-point game?
There is an argument to be made for Achane as high as RB5 and as low as RB17. One thing is indisputable, though. The talented sophomore running back has league-winning upside.
Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs
Fantasy managers can and should exercise caution when going all in on Day 3/UDFA running backs. As fun as Isiah Pacheco was as a rookie, there was always a chance he was a flash in the pan — a Phillip Lindsay.
After two years, we can confidently say Pacheco is legit, and he’s here to stay. The only major change the Chiefs made to their backfield was to not re-sign Jerick McKinnon. This paves the way for Pacheco to set career highs in touches and, more specifically, target share.
Last season, Pacheco had the 11th-highest percentage of carries to go for 15+ yards. He created 3.59 yards per touch (18th in the league), but that’s all secondary to his big step forward in the passing game.
Pacheco’s target share may have only been 9.9% (26th in the NFL), but that’s enough, especially considering he saw just a 2.3% target share as a rookie. With McKinnon gone, Pacheco has three-down upside and looks to be a great option for fantasy managers in the second or third round.
