Tyrone Tracy Jr. Injury Update

Tracy left the Giants’ Week 13 Monday night game against the Patriots in the fourth quarter after being hit and driven into the turf on what looked like a routine run. The injury occurred with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the contest. He stayed down while trainers attended to him, and it quickly became apparent this was not a minor issue.

Tracy struggled to put weight on his left leg as he was assisted off the field. He was taken to the medical tent for evaluation before being carted to the locker room. The team listed him as questionable to return with a left hip injury, but it was quite clear he was not coming back.

Tracy said Tuesday following the game that he suffered a hip contusion/stinger during the loss and expects to be fine. The good news from Tracy himself suggested the injury was not as serious as the visuals indicated. A hip contusion is significantly better than many of the potential diagnoses that were feared when he was carted off.

The Giants were on bye in Week 14, which gave Tracy a full week of recovery without missing an actual game. Based on Tracy’s own comments, it sounded as if he would’ve had a chance to play had the Giants not had a bye.

Tracy practiced in full on Wednesday, which confirms he was being truthful when he said he was all good. Tracy will play on Sunday.

Tracy’s Fantasy Outlook

Tracy concluded the contest with 10 carries for 36 yards against New England. He also caught one pass for minus-3 yards. Before the injury, Tracy had been one of the bright spots in an otherwise dismal Giants season.

With Tracy back at full health, he should resume his role in the Giants’ backfield rotation. New York has utilized a committee approach throughout the season, with Tracy, Cam Skattebo, and Devin Singletary all seeing varying touches depending on game flow.

The Giants are playing out a lost season but still want to evaluate their young talent. Tracy has been part of their rotation alongside Skattebo and Singletary. The coaching staff wants to assess what they have for the future.

The Giants face Baltimore, Washington, and Indianapolis to close the fantasy season. Tracy could provide volume-based RB2/flex value if he maintains a significant role in the rotation. However, the committee approach limits his upside for fantasy managers in the playoffs.
