Updated TreVeyon Henderson Fantasy Outlook 2026: Patriots RB Is Worth the Volatility

If things break right, TreVeyon Henderson could take over the Patriots backfield. But the downside is evident. Is the Patriots RB worth drafting?

Drafting a New England Patriots running back in 2026 poses a familiar roster construction challenge. Neither TreVeyon Henderson nor Rhamondre Stevenson is cheap, but neither requires an overwhelming draft investment either. The decision forces fantasy managers to choose between Stevenson, a proven asset with a narrow range of outcomes, and Henderson, a player who fluctuated from droppable to a difference maker during his rookie season.

No pressure, the decision might just determine your fate for the entire season.

Should I Draft TreVeyon Henderson in Fantasy Football?

This situation feels a lot like the recent Seattle backfield splits. Henderson functions as Kenneth Walker, acting as an explosive runner capped by a limited touch ceiling. Stevenson acts as Zach Charbonnet, offering a reliable skill set that is less likely to put the offense behind schedule.

In shared games last season, Stevenson outscored Henderson 12.8 to 9.5 PPG points per game. Stevenson also dominated high-value opportunities as it was clear that this team had a chance to do real damage. He recorded 70 playoff touches compared to 35 for Henderson.

During the regular season, Stevenson converted 17 carries inside the 15-yard line into five touchdowns, whereas Henderson needed 26 carries in that area to score his five touchdowns.

There certainly are areas you could point to that would suggest that Stevenson enters 2026 as the leader of this committee.

On the surface, Henderson was highly efficient. Among 49 running backs with at least 100 carries, he ranked sixth with 5.1 raw yards per carry. Stevenson ranked 16th with 4.6 yards per carry. However, removing splash plays of 25 or more yards drastically shifts the picture. Without those explosive runs, Stevenson ranked 18th at 4.0 yards per carry, and Henderson plummeted to 40th at 3.5 yards per carry.

Again: consistency versus potential. The Patriots showed us that they valued one over the other last season and it’s our job to project if that’ll be the case again in 2026.

Despite the carry-to-carry volatility, Henderson provides proof of concept and showed clear growth with experience. This is a specific split to pick at, but given that he’s had one year in the NFL, nothing around him carries a ton in terms of sample size.

In his first matchups against divisional teams, Henderson averaged just 3.4 yards per carry, totaling 96 yards on 28 attempts. In the second matchups against those same opponents, he rushed 46 times for 283 yards at a massive 7.0 yards per carry.

Could Henderson face fewer loaded boxes due to the passing threat posed by A.J. Brown? Against non-loaded boxes, he averaged 4.8 yards per carry compared to 4.0 for Stevenson.

Both backs offer distinct paths to fantasy production, forcing managers to decide between weekly stability and explosive upside. I lean Henderson. Give me the mystery box with the understanding that the range of outcomes is far greater. Stevenson feels like the pick for managers who want to contend while Henderson is more the option for those who make winning the priority, even if it comes with some added missed playoff equity.
