Travis Etienne put together a genuinely solid fantasy season in 2025, quietly finishing as a low-end RB1. He then cashed in with a big free agent contract from the New Orleans Saints.
The move pairs him with a new backfield partner and drops him into a very different offensive environment. Should fantasy football managers buy Etienne at his current price in 2026?
Should You Draft Saints RB Travis Etienne in Fantasy Football?
Etienne is coming off a productive campaign. He finished 2025 as the RB13 while averaging 14.9 fantasy points per game and a respectable 4.3 yards per carry. That is a good season by any reasonable standard. It is also important to understand exactly how he got there.
Etienne was not efficient so much as he was fed. His 69.2% opportunity share was massive, and he parlayed that volume into 13 touchdowns. The advanced numbers tell a less flattering story, as his 0.81 fantasy points per opportunity ranked just 32nd among running backs. This is a player whose production is a function of workload far more than talent.

The inconsistency is worth remembering, too. Just one season earlier, in 2024, Etienne managed a meager 8.7 points per game. This is not a back who elevates a situation on his own. He needs the situation to elevate him.
His work in the passing game does not help the case either. Etienne posted a modest 9.5% target share and averaged just over two receptions per contest. That is not a receiving profile that moves the needle in PPR, which matters a great deal for what comes next.
Etienne’s Redraft Fantasy Football Value
Here is my central concern. Etienne built his RB13 season inside a Jacksonville Jaguars offense that ranked among the top six in scoring. He is now walking into a considerably worse environment.
New Orleans finished 28th in scoring last season and 31st in the league in yards per carry. While I am optimistic about the offense taking a large step forward this season, they’re still not coming close to what Jacksonville provided. The opportunities that fueled his touchdown total are simply harder to come by here.
The backfield situation adds another layer of doubt. Many assumed Alvin Kamara would be gone by now. Instead, he is still on the roster and planning to play.

Kamara may be on his last legs, but a back with his pedigree is going to command a role as long as he is in the building. That role figures to be on passing downs, which was never Etienne’s strength to begin with.
The broader offensive direction points the same way. New Orleans spent the eighth overall pick on wide receiver Jordyn Tyson and profiles as a more pass-heavy team under Kellen Moore. Fewer designed runs and fewer trips inside the 10 make it very difficult to project another 13-touchdown season.
Run the math, and the ceiling reveals itself. Even if Etienne holds his volume and efficiency despite the downgrade, simply shaving a couple of scores off his total drops him squarely into the mid-RB2 range. That is roughly the player his current cost already reflects, not a league-winner waiting to be had.

None of this makes Etienne a bad pick. His ADP is RB19, and I have him ranked in the exact same spot. To me, that means the market has him priced fairly.
My issue is that I want upside from my picks, and I just do not see a high ceiling here. I would happily take Etienne if he slid below ADP. At cost, though, there are other players in that range I would rather roster.
