TreVeyon Henderson’s Fantasy Outlook

Henderson operated as an elite RB1 during Stevenson’s absence. He received massive volume and posted games of 28.0 and 32.3 fantasy points in Weeks 10 and 11, establishing himself as one of fantasy’s most valuable assets during that stretch. Those performances suggested he had seized control of the backfield permanently.

When Stevenson returned in Week 12, Henderson maintained his starting role and continued dominating snaps and touches. It appeared he had iced Stevenson completely, relegating the veteran to a minor complementary role. The backfield hierarchy seemed settled.

Then Week 13 changed everything. The roles completely flipped, reverting back to Stevenson as the lead back with Henderson mixing in sporadically. Despite the reduced workload, Henderson has remained useful for fantasy purposes. He has posted 11 fantasy points in two consecutive games and now has reached double digits in five straight contests.

However, fantasy managers need more than 11-point outings to justify starting him in playoff matchups.

The uncertainty surrounding his weekly role creates significant risk, as there’s no guarantee whether he’ll receive 20 touches or 10 touches in any given week. His Week 13 performance included 67 rushing yards and three receptions for 19 yards, solid production that nonetheless reflected his diminished involvement compared to his featured-back stretch.

Rhamondre Stevenson’s Fantasy Outlook

Stevenson looked borderline droppable in his first game back from injury. Now there’s a legitimate case to be made he should be ranked higher than Henderson moving forward. The backfield hierarchy has shifted decisively back in his favor over the past two weeks.

Stevenson started last week’s game and played several snaps in a row before Henderson even saw the field, a clear signal about the coaching staff’s intentions. He finished with a 58% snap share, reclaiming the lead-back role he held before getting hurt. The veteran has reestablished himself as New England’s primary option in the backfield.

His production has been solid if unspectacular since returning. Stevenson rushed for 40 yards while adding three receptions for 40 yards in Week 14, demonstrating his continued involvement in the passing game. More importantly, he has reclaimed the goal-line work that makes him a weekly touchdown threat.

The coaching staff clearly trusts Stevenson more than Henderson in critical situations. His ability to contribute as both a rusher and receiver gives him the higher weekly ceiling between the two backs. While Henderson remains involved, Stevenson’s expanded role and goal-line access make him the preferred fantasy option in this backfield moving forward.

Should You Start Henderson or Stevenson This Week?

Buffalo presents a favorable matchup despite their strong record. The Bills allow the fifth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to running backs. They’ve surrendered the most rushing touchdowns, sixth-most rushing yards, and have struggled defending explosive runs.

Both backs had trouble the last time they played the Bills in Week 5, though. Stevenson punched in two short touchdowns, which salvaged his fantasy value, but neither was particularly effective on a per-touch basis. They combined to catch just four passes for 16 yards in that meeting.

The Bills operate as a massive run funnel defense. Drake Maye can absolutely sling it and will, but the way to move the ball against Buffalo is on the ground. However, just 12.7% of the total receiving yards allowed by the Bills has gone to running backs. Both backs will likely need to rely on their rushing production to deliver fantasy points.

It’s hard to make a case for Henderson above Stevenson given the recent usage trends. Both backs are in play this week as low-end RB2 options. However, Stevenson has the higher upside because of his goal-line role and the Patriots’ commitment to featuring him as the primary option.
