Should You Start Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson or TE Luke Musgrave in Fantasy Football Week 10?

How will the Packers pass catching corps be impacted by Tucker Kraft's injury? Can fantasy managers start Christian Watson or Luke Musgrave?

Green Bay’s passing game faces significant uncertainty following Tucker Kraft’s season-ending ACL injury. Christian Watson and Luke Musgrave enter Monday Night Football with questions surrounding their ability to compensate for the loss of the Packers’ top tight end. Can fantasy football managers trust either Green Bay pass catcher this week?

Christian Watson Fantasy Outlook

Watson’s role hasn’t significantly increased in his second game back from his own ACL injury. The former North Dakota State star has hovered around a 60% snap share through two games while seeing exactly four targets in consecutive weeks. The limited volume reflects the coaching staff’s cautious approach with their explosive deep threat.

Watson operates entirely as a deep ball merchant at this stage of his recovery. If Jordan Love doesn’t connect with him on a downfield target, fantasy managers should not expect productive outings.

The 25-year-old has caught just one pass in each of his two games since returning to action. Watson’s fantasy relevance depends entirely on one or two long completions per game rather than consistent target volume. This boom-or-bust profile makes him unreliable for weekly lineup decisions despite his explosive upside when healthy.

Romeo Doubs remains firmly entrenched as Green Bay’s WR1, commanding the majority of targets and route participation. Watson functions as the field stretcher who runs deep routes to create space underneath for Doubs and other receivers. Without significant volume increase, Watson remains a speculative WR4 option suitable only for managers chasing ceiling performances.

Luke Musgrave  Fantasy Outlook

Musgrave is poised to assume the Packers’ primary tight end role following Kraft’s devastating knee injury. Both tight ends were drafted in 2023, with Musgrave selected earlier and initially serving as the TE1 ahead of Kraft to open their rookie season. Kraft only earned his opportunity due to a Musgrave injury, and his undeniable talent seized control of the position.

Now Musgrave gets another chance to prove himself as the starter. The Oregon State product showed flashes as a rookie, posting 10.9 fantasy points in Week 3 of his first season on a 90% snap share. However, that performance remains his best fantasy outing, and he never approached Kraft’s consistent production.

Last week’s usage following Kraft’s third-quarter injury provides concerning context for expectations. Even with Kraft departing early, Musgrave’s snap share reached only 46% against Carolina.

Musgrave played 30 snaps with three targets for 34 yards in relief, modest production that suggests the Packers may utilize multiple tight ends rather than feature one player.

Fantasy managers who added Musgrave off waivers made the right decision. Waiting to see if he breaks out means it will be too late to acquire him once his value spikes.

However, expecting TE1 production or a one-for-one Kraft replacement is unrealistic. Love will not target Musgrave at similar rates to how he fed Kraft simply because talent matters. Love does not target tight ends; he targets Kraft.

Should You Start Watson or Musgrave This Week?

Philadelphia presents a brutally difficult matchup for both Green Bay pass catchers. The Eagles allow the third-fewest schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to tight ends, creating unfavorable conditions for Musgrave’s debut as the starter.

Things don’t look much better for Watson against Philadelphia’s secondary. The Eagles allow the sixth-fewest schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to wide receivers, making this one of the toughest defensive environments in the league for pass catchers.

Philadelphia functions as a run-funnel defense designed to force opponents into inefficient rushing attacks. Expect the Packers to lean heavily on Josh Jacobs in light of Love’s disastrous performance against Carolina last week. Green Bay will try establishing the ground game before taking deep shots downfield.

Neither Watson nor Musgrave qualify as inspiring fantasy options in Week 10. Watson offers boom potential through his deep-ball ability but carries an extremely low floor given his four-target ceiling through two games. Musgrave faces unrealistic expectations as Kraft’s replacement while matching up against one of the league’s stingiest defenses against tight ends. Fantasy managers should seek alternatives unless facing desperate roster situations from byes or injuries.
