San Francisco’s receiving corps finally played together at full strength last week as Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall navigate their roles with Brock Purdy back under center. Both receivers enter Week 12 following vastly different Week 11 performances that revealed the target hierarchy. Can fantasy football managers trust either 49ers receiver this week?
Jauan Jennings Fantasy Outlook
Finally with all four of their top offensive weapons healthy, plus Purdy, we got to see the 49ers offense at full strength. San Francisco scored a season-high 41 points. More importantly, we got to see the target distribution play out.
Jennings led the team with a 23% target share, tied with George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey. That only amounted to six targets a piece as Purdy attempted a mere 26 passes. Despite the limited volume, Jennings caught four balls for 54 yards.

Entering the season, Jennings was expected to be the WR1 until Brandon Aiyuk returned, which is not happening anytime soon. Nothing has changed from that expectation. Whenever healthy, Jennings is the top wide receiver in San Francisco’s offense.
Jennings has led the 49ers in wide receiver targets over the last five games and is showing a nice connection with Purdy. Both players operated on the same wavelength against Arizona, demonstrating the chemistry that makes Jennings the most reliable fantasy option among San Francisco’s receivers.
Ricky Pearsall Fantasy Outlook
It was great to see Pearsall back in action, but not great for anyone who started him in fantasy. The sophomore wide receiver only saw three targets, catching one for no gain. Obviously, the most important thing is that Pearsall looked healthy and came out of the game no worse for wear.
Despite the poor statistical showing, Pearsall played 75% of the snaps, tied with Jennings for most among San Francisco wide receivers. The high snap count demonstrates the coaching staff’s confidence in his health and ability to contribute moving forward.

It stands to reason Pearsall will be better going forward because he can’t possibly be worse. It’s a bit premature to declare him dead for fantasy purposes. We have no idea if his lack of production was due to a target squeeze or it simply being his first game back from a lengthy absence.
However, it certainly wasn’t encouraging that Pearsall did not see a single first-read target. Was there even a single play designed to go his way?
Nevertheless, that should change going forward. He’s too good of a player to not get the ball. The question is whether it will be enough for sustained fantasy production.
Should You Start Jennings or Pearsall This Week?
The matchup this week is not as easy as it might have looked on paper a few weeks ago. The Carolina Panthers have actually been incredible at stopping opposing wide receivers, allowing the fifth-fewest schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to the position.
A big part of the problem is the Panthers are easier to run on, so teams will do that rather than challenge their secondary. The 49ers certainly have the personnel to ground and pound with Christian McCaffrey and their powerful offensive line. We could be looking at another low-volume passing day for Purdy.
San Francisco enters as 6.5-point home favorites on Monday Night Football. The 49ers should control this game throughout, creating negative game script for Carolina that allows San Francisco to lean heavily on the rushing attack. Purdy may not need to throw 30 times in a comfortable victory.
Given the matchup and game script projections, Jennings is an uninspiring Flex option while Pearsall is best left on benches until he has a breakout game. Fantasy managers should seek alternatives unless facing desperate roster constraints.
