Puka Nacua Injury Update

The star receiver suffered a low ankle sprain in the Rams’ Week 6 victory over the Baltimore Ravens when an awkward landing after pursuing a Matthew Stafford end zone target left him grabbing his lower left leg.

Though Nacua attempted to continue playing and briefly returned for limited third-quarter action, he remained without a target for the game’s remainder, finishing with only two catches for 28 yards. McVay later explained that while Nacua “tried to give it a go,” he simply “didn’t feel good enough”.

Los Angeles benefited from fortunate timing, as their Week 8 bye immediately followed Nacua’s absence in the London matchup against Jacksonville. This scheduling allowed for two complete weeks of healing without additional missed games. During the bye period, McVay remained optimistic, expressing confidence about Nacua’s Week 9 readiness and noting his “progress” throughout recovery.

Monday brought McVay’s expectation that his receiver would both practice Wednesday and suit up Sunday. Those projections materialized when Nacua participated in limited capacity during Wednesday’s session. It marked his first field work since the injury.

Nacua upgraded to a full practice on Thursday, representing significant progress in his recovery from the low ankle sprain. The upgrade from limited to full participation between consecutive practice days indicates he’s no longer experiencing any restrictions or discomfort.

Expect Nacua to not carry a final injury designation and play on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. His trajectory throughout the week confirms he’s fully healthy and ready to return to his dominant role in the Rams offense.

Nacua Fantasy Outlook

Fantasy managers who have been without the league’s most productive receiver will be thrilled to have Nacua back in their lineups. Through five complete games before his injury in Week 6, Nacua topped the NFL with 52 receptions and 588 receiving yards, cementing himself as fantasy football’s clear WR1.

His 52 catches through five games established an NFL record for most receptions in a player’s first five games of any season, showcasing the unprecedented pace he maintained before the ankle injury. Nacua was posting over 23 fantasy points per game on average and hadn’t finished below that mark in any single contest.

While Nacua was sidelined, Davante Adams took over the WR1 responsibilities for Los Angeles but couldn’t match Nacua’s target dominance and overall production. Adams posted just 35 yards in Week 7 against Jacksonville, though he salvaged his fantasy day by finding the end zone three times in a low-volume passing attack.

When he returns, Nacua will instantly resume his role as the Rams’ clear-cut top receiving threat and reclaim his position as fantasy football’s best wide receiver. His chemistry with Stafford has been nearly unstoppable when both are healthy, and the additional rest should guarantee he’s back without any lingering ankle concerns.

Fantasy managers can anticipate Nacua continuing right where he left off, maintaining his elite target share and red zone usage. His return delivers an instant upgrade to lineups as the crucial final stretch of the fantasy season approaches.
