Luther Burden III flashed genuine star potential in limited work as a rookie and has been the talk of the Chicago offseason. He also could not get on the field for most of last season, which is a strange thing to reconcile. The path to a sophomore breakout is real, and so are the reasons it might not happen. Fantasy managers face a pure value question in 2026.
Should You Draft Luther Burden III in Fantasy Football?
Currently, Luther is being drafted in PFN’s Free Fantasy Mock Draft Simulator with an ADP of 52.8. It depends on how many people are in your league, but that’s usually a late 5th- or an early 6th-round pick.
PFN’s fantasy experts Jason Katz and Kyle Soppe are pretty high on Burden. They have him as the 47th player on their board overall. That also makes him the 23rd receiver overall. That’s either a WR2 or a high-end flex option, again depending on how many people are in your league.
You’re betting on upside with Burden. In the second half of 2025, in the games that he played, he was on pace for over 1,000 receiving yards. He put up solid production comparable to Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, and Colston Loveland, despite playing a very minimal role in that offense those first couple of weeks.
He had that one game where he exploded against the Cowboys with that big gain, but he was otherwise very hit or miss. In Week 1, he had negative 3 receiving yards. Week 2, he had 5. Week 4, he had negative 4. Week 8, he had negative 1. There were definitely some weeks early in the year where he didn’t produce all that well, but as the season went on, he started to progress at a much higher level.
DJ Moore is gone. You still have Rome Odunze to compete for touches with. You still have Colston Loveland. But Caleb Williams was extremely efficient targeting Burden last year, and I think that’s only going to continue.
I wouldn’t necessarily reach on Burden. He’s not somebody I’m going out of my way to put a claim on in the 30s in my fantasy drafts. But if he’s available around that 52.8 range, I think that’s good value given how high his ceiling is. I’m saying draft Burden at his current ADP in fantasy football.

Luther Burden III’s Week 1 Fantasy Outlook

At the end of last season, the excitement for Burden couldn’t have been higher. We saw growth from Caleb Williams in this Ben Johnson scheme, and we saw flashes of what that could mean for his presumptive WR1 in Burden.
He had a 25-plus-yard catch in the final three weeks of the fantasy season, turning 22 targets over that stretch into 18 catches for 289 yards and a score. The highlights did the talking, and the advanced metrics did the walking, as they suggested that he was as good as, if not better than, the counting numbers suggested.
Then we got the early August groin issue and had to wrestle with the idea of him missing a month of developmental time. The talent remains unquestioned, and his status for this game isn’t in question, but missed time as the team looks to reallocate DJ Moore’s targets and build on the strides they took in the second half of last season isn’t ideal.
I think you’re OK to pick up the high-level expectations where you left them a month ago.
The Steelers were a bottom-10 defense in opponent YPA and third-down conversion rate, two metrics that suggest that this Chicago offense should be not only on the field with regularity, but challenging for a scoring position.
There are a handful of situations where I want to wait and see what the target distribution looks like (Buffalo, Cleveland, and San Francisco come to mind), but this isn’t that. I’m happy to be a week early instead of a week late: I’m starting any Bear starter that I am fortunate enough to roster.
