KC Concepcion arrives in Cleveland with first-round draft capital and a receiver room that never settled on an alpha. His draft cost sits well below where rookies of his pedigree normally go. The offense around him is the obvious reason why, and it is a legitimate concern. Fantasy managers should weigh whether the discount outweighs the situation.
Should You Draft KC Concepcion in Fantasy Football?
Currently in PFN’s Free Fantasy Mock Draft Simulator, Concepcion’s going off the board with an ADP of 130.4. He’s definitely a late-round guy. Depending on how many people are in your league, that might be round 13, round 14 even. PFN’s fantasy experts Jason Katz and Kyle Soppe are a little bit higher on him than the consensus. They have him as the 115th overall player in their fantasy football rankings this year, and that comes out to WR53 with a projected 9.79 PPR points per game.
With a rookie, there’s going to be significant risk in taking him from a fantasy perspective. You never necessarily know how they’re going to produce or how they’re going to adjust to the NFL level.
But I think with KC, it’s going to be intriguing, because he was a first-round pick for the Browns, so they very clearly view him in high regard. Sure, they also drafted Denzel Boston, but the fact that KC got drafted first shows which one of the two they think is better. Whether or not that pans out remains to be seen.
But KC genuinely has game-breaking speed and the sheer explosiveness coming out of his breaks to be an impact player, somebody who can take the top off the defense, somebody who can make defenders miss in space. There’s going to be a lot of upside with him to make big plays. From a target-share perspective, I don’t know if he’s going to out-target Harold Fannin in particular, but I do think the yardage upside is tremendous with KC.
You’re looking at the rest of the receivers in that mix other than Denzel Boston. Jerry Jeudy is coming off a down year. He had that impressive Pro Bowl year with the Browns a few years back, but now his outlook isn’t looking too great. There’s Isaiah Bond, sure, but if you want a speedster in the mix, KC is a better option in that regard.
I think he has the opportunity. I don’t know if he’d be a consistent starter in fantasy, but I think he could be a really good sleeper flex option, which, if you can get it at WR53, is tremendous value. At that 130 range, I think KC has the potential to be a WR1 for the Browns and therefore maybe even a low WR2 in your fantasy leagues from a PPR perspective. At his current ADP of 130.4, I am saying absolutely yes. Take Concepcion where he’s currently going off the board.

KC Concepcion’s Week 1 Fantasy Outlook

The hierarchy of targets in Cleveland is a moving piece at the moment, and if/when we get a change under center, we are bound to go through all of this again.
Concepcion is a spark plug that should fit in any style. “Fit” and “produce in a monster way” aren’t the same thing, but I do think the floor for the trio of WRs in Cleveland is highest for this rookie, given his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands.
In theory, this skill set should be of interest to us.
Until we see it, however, I’m stashing, not playing. The route tree can work for us, but it’ll require offensive creativity, and I’m not sold that we even get offensive competence out of the gates.
