Justin Herbert’s status has fantasy football managers on edge after a concerning development in the Los Angeles Chargers’ Week 13 win. The star quarterback underwent a procedure earlier this week and is being evaluated closely ahead of Monday night’s showdown with Philadelphia.
For now, optimism remains, but so does uncertainty. Will Herbert be ready to take the field, or will fantasy lineups need a last-minute adjustment?
Justin Herbert Injury Update
Herbert suffered a hand injury during the Chargers’ win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13 that required surgery. Herbert had that procedure on Monday and is considered day-to-day. The initial belief is that the veteran quarterback has a chance to be ready for Week 14’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, especially since the game is on Monday night.
Expect Herbert to be ramped up as the week progresses to see if his hand can handle the rigors of catching snaps. If Herbert is ruled out, journeyman quarterback Trey Lance would be the starter.

Herbert Fantasy Outlook
Herbert has three straight finishes outside of the top 15 at the position and is now dealing with off-hand surgery ahead of this Monday nighter.
Not great.
Since their Week 9 bye, the Eagles have allowed just one QB (Dak Prescott) to reach his season average, and even that took a slanted game script with the Cowboys falling behind by 21 early.
There’s a world in which we see Herbert lean into his athleticism and get us there as a result. We’ve seen him do it a few times this season (three games with 50+ rush yards), and with a variety of weapons for Philadelphia to keep tabs on, it’s possible.Â

I’m cautiously optimistic. The Bolts are going to have a better feel for what their QB can/can’t do than the opponent, and that has me thinking they have a scheme advantage.
That said, there’s more risk than normal with Herbert, and if you wanted to play a Sam Darnold or Bo Nix type over him, I wouldn’t blame you.
