Josh Jacobs has quietly been one of the more productive running backs in football for the better part of a decade. Last season introduced some real cracks in that foundation. He now enters 2026 carrying questions about his efficiency, his workload, and his availability. Fantasy managers need to decide whether the floor is still worth the price.
Should You Draft Josh Jacobs in Fantasy Football?
Jacobs has been a fantasy football hero before, but is the sun setting on the popular Green Bay Packers running back?
As of early September, Jacobs has an ADP of 30.8. His PFN rank is a little lower at 36. His projected points per game in 2026 is 14.5, and he is ranked as the RB15 entering the year.
He has a looming suspension that complicates matters. He was arrested in May on domestic abuse charges. Brian Gutekunst, the Packers general manager, has said that the team is preparing for a suspension, but an exact game length remains unclear.
Jacobs has finished in the top 13 in 5 of the last 6 seasons at the RB position, and his top touch competition from 2025, Emanuel Wilson, went on to sign with the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers still have depth issues at the running back position behind Jacobs. He totaled 28 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons, upholding a strong 5.5% TD rate on his carries in 2025. When Jacobs is available, he is the guy in the front seat to get the lion’s share of touches in the Packers offense. He’s been that way for a while, and it’s going to be even more the case in 2026 as long as he’s available.
But at the same time, there are reasons for concern. His marginal receiving production is concerning, and he has only 2 career TDs in that phase. He’s not much of a big-play threat either. He had just 3 carries over 20 yards in 2025. The starting offensive line returns for the most part, but only two starters on that front are above average, Aaron Banks among them. Anthony Belton, a 2025 second-round pick, has potentially lost his spot at right guard, which isn’t very promising either. This offensive line finished 28th in PFN OL Impact last year and could get caught in limbo or even regress slightly this coming year.
But in my opinion, any potential suspension for Jacobs is the biggest factor in adjusting his projection. If he stays available, his current value just outside the top 30 is a lot more palatable. But even then, he’s 28 years old. He missed a couple of games due to injury in 2025 and has been dealing with a groin injury this summer as well.
In my opinion, Jacobs’ dependable volume allotment and his TD rate make him a viable mid-round target, but he’s not a dynamic receiver or big-play threat. Some RB options ranked below him, like Kyren Williams, Breece Hall, and D’Andre Swift, may offer more reliability and upside all at once.
My final ruling is that we’ve seen what Jacobs can do as a runner before, but I would say proceed with caution at his ADP, especially in PPR leagues, because of the lack of receiving versatility and the looming suspension that may limit his prime weeks moving forward.

Better late than never. Hopefully you were able to push off your draft as long as possible, and Sunday’s news doesn’t derail an unfortunate team.
As a reminder, Jacobs is on the commissioner exempt list: essentially soft-launching a suspension that won’t cost the Packers a roster spot. We don’t know exactly how fast this process will play out, but this move suggests that there is fire where the offseason smoke was.
I still think he’s worth a roster spot in redraft formats, but he’s going to tie up a roster spot, and that’s not something everyone can deal with.
