Cairo Santos, Chicago Bears (vs. NYG)
Try not to get too over your skis about the Bears’ offensive performance against the Bengals. Everyone torches the Bengals. But it is encouraging to see this offense flourish. It’s also good for the kicking game.
We want kickers on offenses that find themselves in scoring position a bunch. That should be no trouble for the Bears against a Giants defense that has given up 30+ points in three straight games.
The Giants are allowing the most fantasy points per game to kickers this season (tied with three other teams). Since returning from injury, Cairo Santos has attempted seven field goals across two games, while making all of his extra points. He’s yet to miss a PAT all season.
In a game that should feature plenty of scoring, the Bears probably won’t find the end zone on all of their drives, giving Santos opportunities to score fantasy points.
Ryan Fitzgerald, Carolina Panthers (vs. NO)
Targeting a kicker on the Panthers is not traditionally how to approach things. That’s where the matchup comes into play.
Carolina often finds themselves an underdog. We don’t want kickers on underdogs, as those teams often end up chasing on the scoreboard, which takes kicking off the table. This week, the Panthers are home favorites against the Saints.
Rico Dowdle’s elevation to the lead back role has provided a spark for this offense, resulting in an upset victory over the Packers last week. Now, the Panthers find themselves in a game they should control.
The Saints are allowing the eighth most fantasy points per game to kickers. This matchup is the perfect marriage of an offense that should be able to move the ball well, but isn’t so prolific that it will finish every drive with a touchdown.
Ryan Fitzgerald has just one miss inside of 50 yards all season. He’s attempted at least one field goal in every game. Prior to last week’s victory, Fitzgerald had attempted multiple field goals in every Panthers win.
