Is Adams Playing Week 15?

Adams has been dealing with a hamstring issue that has kept him on the injury report for multiple weeks. The veteran receiver told reporters that his left hamstring issue happened early during the Rams’ game at Carolina in Week 13. Despite the injury, he hauled in four of five targets for 58 yards and two touchdowns in that contest.

Adams did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday, raising some concern about his availability for Sunday night. However, he returned to the field on Friday in a limited capacity. The Rams listed Adams as questionable on their final injury report heading into the Week 15 showdown.

Head coach Sean McVay has been historically forthcoming when it comes to injuries, and his latest comments provide significant reassurance. McVay said Adams is expected to play against the Lions. The head coach revealed he would be very surprised if Adams is unable to compete Sunday night. Given McVay’s track record of transparency with injury situations, there is no reason to doubt his assessment.

Adams has been managing this same hamstring injury since September without ever missing a game. McVay described the injury report listing as precautionary rather than indicative of serious concern.

It is worth noting the Rams are on a short week in Week 16, facing the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. This compressed schedule could result in the team being more careful with Adams’ snap count or usage on Sunday to preserve him for the Thursday game, but he should still play and maintain his usual role.

On Saturday night, Adam Schefter reported that Adams is expected to play.

Adams’ Fantasy Football Outlook

Adams is kind of like peak Derrick Henry these days in that you chase the strong mean and upside cases, understanding that a dud is going to be be sprinkled in every now-and-again.

For Henry, game script was the deciding factor. When his team was trailing, he was at risk. For Adams, it’s more random.

No one in the NFL has proven capable of slowing him down inside the red zone on a consistent basis, but when the Rams strike for three touchdowns of 28+ yards, there’s only so much he can do.

Even in a week where he failed to score, the future Hall of Famer earned a pair of end zone targets: he wasn’t far off from getting you the stat line you were expecting. He gets the 10th worst red zone defense in the league this week and will again lead the position in terms of TD equity.

I don’t like betting on touchdowns with my WR2 slot, but outliers exist and Adams is certainly one of them.
