D’Andre Swift Injury Update

Swift’s pattern this year has been straightforward: show up on the injury report, manage limited practices, and still suit up on Sunday. That context matters because it lowers the alarm level for most routine listings.

A typical limited Wednesday would usually register as little more than background noise, especially for a veteran running back who has already demonstrated he can perform effectively while less than 100%.

The issue this time is the way this groin injury appeared. Swift was not on the injury report on Tuesday, then showed up as limited on Wednesday. That strongly implies the problem originated at practice rather than being something he carried over from last week’s game.

Midweek additions to the injury report are always worth paying attention to, particularly when they involve soft-tissue issues like groin injuries. Groins can be especially tricky for running backs because they are heavily involved in cutting, accelerating, and changing direction. A minor tweak can stay minor if handled correctly, but it can also flare up quickly if the player tries to push through too much too soon.

The compressed timeline only adds to the uncertainty. With the game just three days away, there is less room for swelling to subside or for the medical staff to test how the injury responds to incremental increases in activity.

From a fantasy perspective, Thursday becomes the key inflection point. If Swift does not practice at all, that will be the moment fantasy managers need to start hitting the panic button. A downgrade to DNP following a limited session would suggest the groin felt worse after Wednesday’s work, which is the exact opposite of what you want to see.

On the other hand, any participation tomorrow counts as a positive sign. If Swift logs even another limited session, it indicates the team is comfortable letting him move around rather than shutting him down to protect against further damage. That is typically the pattern coaches follow when they expect a player to gut it out on game day.

In that scenario, the expectation should be that Swift plays, even if he is listed as questionable on the final report. Given his season-long track record of playing through nagging issues, another limited practice this week would line up squarely with the established pattern fantasy managers have seen from him all year.

Until Thursday’s report comes out, the correct stance is cautious optimism. The situation is more concerning than the usual veteran rest or lingering injury because of the sudden appearance of the groin issue, but it has not yet crossed into full-fledged red-alert territory. Fantasy managers should be prepared with a backup plan in case Thursday brings bad news.

Swift’s Fantasy Football Outlook

Swift picked a heck of a time to record his first multi-TD game of the season, carrying 18 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns against the Browns last week.

The Kyle Monangai factor is real (43.8% snap share last week), but Swift had a six-yard TD on the second drive and, up to that point, he had accounted for every Bear rushing attempt.

This is a committee situation, though I do feel good about the hierarchy. Swift turned 16 touches into 82 yards against these Packers two weeks ago and he should be able to replicate that against a unit that is now adjusting to life with Micah Parsons.
