Is D’Andre Swift Playing Week 8?

Swift missed practice Wednesday before returning as a limited participant on both Thursday and Friday. The team officially listed him as questionable for Sunday’s game in Baltimore. This week’s progression mirrors his lead-up to Week 7, when he carried the same designation before playing, and playing very well.

Swift dealt with the same groin issue last week and proved he could manage it successfully, racking up 19 carries for 124 yards and one touchdown, plus one catch for 14 yards in Chicago’s 26-14 win over the New Orleans Saints. It was his most productive outing of the season, both on the ground and overall, totaling 138 yards from scrimmage on 20 opportunities despite his snap share dipping slightly to 53%.

ESPN’s Courtney Cronin reported that Swift “expects to play” against the Baltimore Ravens, and the confidence he displayed last week has carried over through this week’s practices. The team has continued to err on the side of caution with him, treating Swift’s Wednesday absence as routine maintenance rather than a sign of setback.

Head coach Ben Johnson has consistently described the injury as minor and has indicated that Swift has shown no signs of reinjury or increased discomfort from last week’s effort. His Thursday and Friday practice participation suggests the Bears are following the same cautious, stepwise plan as before with limited early reps followed by heavier game usage once cleared.

Swift has found himself listed as questionable multiple times this season yet hasn’t missed a game, which should give fantasy managers additional reassurance. All signs point to the team’s star back being active on Sunday in one of the league’s most run-heavy offenses.

Swift’s Fantasy Football Outlook

Swift has regained his footing as Chicago’s centerpiece on offense under head coach Ben Johnson. He has now logged back-to-back dominant performances, including his 175-yard effort two weeks ago against Washington and last week’s 124-yard showing against New Orleans. Across those two games, he’s averaging more than 130 total yards of offense per game and remains the clear RB1 for the Bears.

The groin issue hasn’t limited his explosiveness or power between the tackles, and he continues to earn the majority of carries even with rookie Kyle Monangai rotating in for light change-of-pace work. Swift’s versatility also gives him consistent usage in the passing game, having seen at least three targets in every contest prior to Week 7.

The matchup against Baltimore presents another strong opportunity. While the Ravens defense has improved in recent weeks, they’ve still been susceptible to chunk runs against agile backs, particularly on outside zone plays where Swift thrives. With the Bears leaning heavily on the ground game to support rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, Swift should see another workload in the 18–22 touch range if active.

Fantasy managers should believe Swift when he says he’ll play. The practice pattern is familiar, the team’s tone is optimistic, and the results speak for themselves. Swift is trending toward being ready once again and belongs firmly in starting lineups for Week 8.
