D’Andre Swift Injury Update

Swift has been playing through various injuries for most of the 2025 season, consistently appearing on the injury report. He’d managed to suit up every week despite recurring discomfort, but finally couldn’t do it anymore last week.

The veteran running back needed a game off to properly rest and recover. Head coach Ben Johnson and the Bears’ medical staff determined that pushing through one more week risked aggravating the injury into something more serious, making the one-game absence a smart long-term decision.

Swift is still managing the groin issue heading into Week 10. There was good news on Wednesday, though. Swift returned to practice in a limited capacity.

Players returning from missed games typically need to participate in Wednesday’s practice on some level to have any realistic chance of playing in the upcoming game. Swift clearing this hurdle suggests he’s progressing well and on track to return.

The Wednesday practice participation is particularly good news because it’s been weeks since Swift practiced on a Wednesday. Throughout the season, Swift has routinely appeared as a DNP on Wednesday injury reports before returning Thursday as a limited participant. The fact that he practiced Wednesday suggests the week off did him considerable good and allowed the groin to heal more than it had been able to while playing through it.

Expect Swift to remain limited throughout the week as the Bears continue managing his workload carefully. It would be a bonus if he were able to log a full practice session at some point, but it’s not necessary for him to play Sunday.

Even a triple LP practice sequence would be sufficient for Swift to return after his one-game absence. The key was getting on the field Wednesday, and he accomplished that goal. Everything else this week is just maintenance and ensuring the groin doesn’t flare up again.

Swift is tracking to return Sunday barring any unexpected setbacks later in the week.

Swift’s Fantasy Football Outlook

Swift remains in the midst of a highly productive stretch that has seen him emerge as one of fantasy’s most consistent running backs. Before missing last week, he was averaging 19.35 fantasy points per game over his previous four contests.

His recent surge included multiple 100-yard rushing performances and consistent involvement in the passing game. Swift has found success running between the tackles while maintaining his versatility as a receiving threat out of the backfield.

Last week’s absence gave Kyle Monangai an opportunity to showcase his abilities. The rookie delivered a stellar performance in Swift’s stead, turning 31 opportunities into 198 yards.

Monangai’s impressive showing likely earned him increased touches moving forward alongside Swift. Johnson has shown throughout his career that he’ll reward players who produce when given opportunities. The Bears’ backfield may operate with slightly more of a committee feel than it did before Swift’s injury.

However, if Swift is back and healthy, he remains the clear lead back and a high-end RB2 for fantasy managers. His talent level and proven production put him well ahead of Monangai in the pecking order, even if the rookie carved out a larger role for himself.

The bigger concern for Swift’s fantasy value is whether the groin issue will continue limiting his explosiveness and forcing him onto the injury report weekly. While he’s tracking to return, the question remains whether he’ll be operating at full health or still somewhat compromised.

Fantasy managers should feel confident starting Swift as a high RB2 if he’s active. His role and volume remain secure despite Monangai’s emergence, and his skill set continues making him one of the league’s more versatile backs when healthy. The week off should have him fresher than he’s been in months, potentially leading to his best performance of the season.
