Christian Watson Injury Update: Should Fantasy Managers Be Worried About the Packers WR?

Christian Watson suffered a shoulder injury in last week's game against the Broncos. How long will fantasy managers be without the Packers WR?

The Green Bay Packers prepare for their critical Week 16 Saturday night road matchup against the Chicago Bears following their disappointing loss to the Denver Broncos. Christian Watson left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Will fantasy football managers have the star receiver available for the final stretch?

Christian Watson Injury Update

Watson is not doing himself any favors to shed the injury-prone label. The fourth-year receiver landed hard on his shoulder in the third quarter of Sunday’s contest. Watson left the game and did not return.

The injury occurred when Watson attempted to catch a deep pass from quarterback Jordan Love. Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II cut Watson off and made a leaping interception. In the process, Watson fell to the turf and landed heavily on his left shoulder.

Watson remained down on the field, writhing in pain and clutching his left shoulder. The Packers initially ruled him questionable to return with a chest injury, but they downgraded him to out roughly 15 minutes after issuing their first update.

The injury was initially described as a chest issue, but it seems to be more his shoulder. The designation was likely due to pain radiating from his shoulder. Things grew more concerning when Watson took an ambulance to a local hospital in the postgame for further examination of his injury.

The situation looked bad, but some positive news arrived on Monday. Ian Rapoport reported that Watson did not suffer a major injury. While that is good news, it seems unlikely he will play this week.

With only two games left in the fantasy season, Watson probably will not be able to contribute again. The combination of the short week and the severity of the injury makes his return extremely unlikely for fantasy purposes.

Watson had previously missed the first six games of the season due to recovery from a torn ACL he suffered during the final game of the 2024 season on January 5, 2025. Despite facing numerous injuries throughout his career, the receiver has been showcasing some of his finest performances lately, serving as the team’s primary target.

Watson’s Fantasy Outlook

With Watson out, Romeo Doubs could be back on the menu as a viable WR3/Flex option. Doubs had seen his fantasy value tank with the superior talent Watson overtaking him as the top option in the passing game.

Jayden Reed also may see more usage, but his role is largely unaffected by Watson, as he plays exclusively in three-receiver sets. Reed has carved out a consistent, but not exactly fantasy friendly role in the Packers offense regardless of Watson’s availability.

The reality is the Packers remain a run-heavy offense and will continue to limit passing to only when necessary. Green Bay has leaned heavily on Josh Jacobs and the ground game throughout the season. With Watson sidelined, the team is unlikely to alter its offensive philosophy.

Fantasy managers who have been relying on Watson should pivot to alternative options for the championship rounds. The short turnaround to Saturday’s game combined with the shoulder injury makes Watson’s availability highly questionable at best. Even if Watson somehow suits up, he would likely be limited and not at full strength.
