The Arizona Cardinals host the Jacksonville Jaguars for their Week 12 matchup looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss. Bam Knight appeared as a limited participant on Wednesday’s practice report with an ankle injury. Will fantasy football managers have the Cardinals interim lead runner available this week?
Bam Knight Injury Update
Knight was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday’s practice report due to an ankle injury. He’s been dealing with this ankle issue for two weeks now. He first sustained the injury during Arizona’s Week 10 contest when he left the game early and did not return.
Last week, Knight was limited in practice throughout the week and drew a questionable designation on Friday’s injury report. However, he wound up playing and looked no worse for wear during the game. His ability to suit up and perform without obvious limitations suggests the ankle injury isn’t severe.
Knight opened this week with another limited practice session, continuing the pattern from last week. Based on his progression last week and ultimate availability, he should be fine to play Sunday against Jacksonville.
The bigger concern for fantasy managers isn’t Knight’s health but rather whether Trey Benson returns from injured reserve. Benson was also limited in Wednesday’s practice after the Cardinals designated him to return from IR.
Arizona opened Benson’s 21-day practice window on Wednesday. While they have three weeks to decide whether to activate him, if Benson is to play on Sunday, they have until Saturday afternoon to activate him for this week’s game.
If Benson isn’t activated, Knight will serve as the lead back with Michael Carter operating as the change of pace option. Emari Demercado has been ruled out for Sunday’s game with a high ankle sprain he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed Demercado’s absence on Wednesday.
At the moment, Carter is the only fully healthy running back on Arizona’s active roster. The Cardinals’ backfield situation remains fluid as the week progresses, with both Knight’s ankle status and Benson’s potential activation creating uncertainty about the workload distribution.
Knight’s Fantasy Outlook
Knight has filled in admirably during Benson’s extended absence following knee surgery on a meniscus tear. He’s operated alongside Demercado and Carter in a committee backfield over the past several weeks. With Demercado now sidelined, Knight stands to see increased opportunities if he’s cleared to play.

If both Demercado and Benson are unavailable, Knight will be the favorite to lead Arizona’s backfield in a committee with Carter. However, if Benson is able to come off IR and suit up for Week 12, he will either step into the lead role or force a true three-headed approach alongside Knight and Carter, depending on how much work he can handle.
Knight remains worthy of a roster spot in most fantasy formats, but his actual upside for Week 12 may not become clear until Arizona has had a chance to monitor Benson at practice throughout the week. Benson’s practice participation on Thursday and Friday will provide more clarity on whether he’s ready to return after missing more than six weeks.
