The NFL season is in full swing. As happens every year, injuries are rearing their ugly heads. As fantasy football managers prepare to set Week 10 lineups, it’s important to stay informed on the latest injury news. Alvin Kamara missed some practice time this week due to injury. What is his current status and outlook for this week?
Alvin Kamara Injury Update
Alvin Kamara continues to manage a lingering ankle injury heading into Week 10, remaining limited in practice through midweek. This is the same injury he’s played through for several weeks, and while it hasn’t kept him off the field, his effectiveness has plummeted. Last week against the Rams, Kamara was held to just 17 yards on seven touches, marking his third straight finish outside the top 30 at his position.
Kamara’s outlook for Week 10 is clouded by matchup and form. He’s facing a Panthers defense that has outperformed expectations against the run, making it tough for fantasy managers to trust the former star runner.
At this point, there is value in his name and nothing more. The production is showing no signs of picking up and with the committmenet to Tyler Shough, not to mention the moving of Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline, it’s clear that the Saints are solely focused on the future.
Unless there is a setback on Friday, Kamara is likely to play, but he carries much more risk than reward, even if deemed to be close to full strength.
The lone redeeming quality is that this game is expected to be competitive throughout, but again, you’re holding onto the past moreso than reading the tea leaves if you’re clinging to hope for a vintage performance.
Kamara’s Fantasy Football Outlook
Every metric you look at, from volume numbers to efficiency and expected ones, it’s clear that Kamara is on the back-nine of his career. Sadly, that process is being sped up due to the ineptitude around him.
His role as a pass catcher hasn’t been the same this year as seasons past, and we were holding out hope that a change under center couldn’t hurt that downward trajectory.
Well, it certainly didn’t make things better.

If you want to tell yourself that this is going to be a tight game and thus a 16-18 touch day is possible, go for it. You’re an optimist at heart, and I admire that.
I’m actively looking for reasons to bench Kamara as my flex. If pressed, I’d start both Seattle backs over him and wouldn’t shy away from a receiver like Romeo Doubs in his spot. This offensive envrionement isn’t built for much fantasy goodness and with their implied point total hovering around 17, this isn’t a risk worth taking.
Use this Kamara season as a way to learn. The numbers were trending in the wrong direction prior to last season, but many managers were blinded but him running hot in some unsustainable areas in 2024.
If you trust the age curve and general career path of running backs at this age, you can save yourself from Kamara like headaches in the future.
