Is Aaron Jones Sr. Playing Week 10?

Update: Jones is ACTIVE

Jones already sat out four games earlier this year with a hamstring strain. The veteran had just made his return in Week 8, completing one full contest before picking up fresh injuries in the Detroit Lions game.

Two separate issues caused his early departure from last week’s matchup. According to Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, Jones was examined for both a shoulder and a toe problem. While the shoulder concern was visible when he went down, the toe ailment emerged as an unexpected complication.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Jones sustained a minor AC joint sprain in his shoulder and anticipated playing against the Baltimore Ravens. Despite the relatively optimistic initial assessment, his Wednesday absence combined with the secondary toe issue created some doubt regarding his availability.

Jones sat out Wednesday’s practice, marking the first worrisome indicator of the week. However, he returned to limited participation on both Thursday and Friday. The veteran carries a questionable designation heading into Sunday’s game.

Jones offered an encouraging update to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert on Friday. “I do feel good. Continue to take it each day. I still have two days, so I feel like I’ll be in a good spot,” Jones said.

Age represents a meaningful consideration at over 30 years old. When players hit this phase of their careers, their bodies eventually fail them regardless of talent level. The accumulation of seasons exacts its toll.

Players like Julio Jones and Michael Thomas remained skilled when they were essentially done as NFL players. Their bodies couldn’t withstand the demands of professional football even before their abilities diminished.

The explosiveness hasn’t noticeably faded on the field. Jones continues to display dynamic traits when given chances, showing burst and cutting skills. But he’s logged considerable mileage, and the recurring injuries raise concerns about whether he can physically endure anymore. The sequence of missing action, briefly returning, then getting hurt again suggests his body might be approaching its threshold.

The progression through the practice week provides reason for cautious optimism. Veterans commonly rest early in the week before increasing activity as Sunday approaches. Jones managed limited sessions on both Thursday and Friday after his Wednesday absence.

His comments to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert and his ability to practice twice in limited fashion indicate he’s trending toward suiting up. Fantasy managers should tentatively expect Jones to play against Baltimore.

On Saturday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Jones is expected to play.

Jones’ Fantasy Football Outlook

The veteran has performed efficiently on the ground this year, posting a solid 5.2 yards per carry average. Yet that hasn’t converted into consistent fantasy production. Jones has averaged just 8.7 fantasy points per game through his restricted action.

Two premature exits from contests due to injury and a disappointing showing against the Chargers have largely contributed to the underwhelming fantasy totals. When available for complete games, the production has been respectable. The challenge has been remaining healthy enough to compile significant volume.

This matchup presents an excellent opportunity against a Ravens defense surrendering the fifth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to running backs. Baltimore has struggled defending the run throughout the season, making them an ideal opponent for Minnesota’s rushing attack.

Should Jones be unable to suit up, Jordan Mason would assume the lead back duties and become a strong RB2 option in this advantageous matchup. Mason has demonstrated competence when given chances and would receive the volume needed to produce against Baltimore’s vulnerable run defense.

Fantasy managers should feel reasonably confident about Jones’ availability based on his practice participation and positive comments. The limited sessions on Thursday and Friday, combined with his optimistic tone, suggest he’s on track to play.

The age consideration and mounting injuries make Jones a risky fantasy asset even when active. Fantasy managers may need to begin exploring more dependable alternatives if the injury concerns continue accumulating.
