Point guard is one of the most important positions in the sport of basketball. The same statement is true for fantasy basketball. Having a reliable point guard or two on your roster is crucial.
In this article, we will be taking a look at five point guards who will make or break your fantasy basketball playoff run. These aren’t the MVP-caliber guys (think Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Luka Doncic) because everyone knows their impacts are pivotal. However, these also are not streamers.
The following five point guards are All-Star caliber players. Some of them may have uncertainty when it comes to injuries, inexperience, or possible trades. Nevertheless, they are all impactful to say the least.
LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets
Ball’s talent is undeniable. Injuries have impacted him over the years, and there is a small chance he could be traded before the deadline in February.
A trade seems unlikely, however. The primary concern for Ball is his injury history. The 24-year-old has managed to appear in 36 of the Hornets’ 46 games this season.
It is also worth noting that Ball is averaging just 19.3 points per outing, his lowest mark since his rookie season. Still, Ball helps out in other areas, averaging 7.6 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.
De’Aaron Fox, San Antonio Spurs
Fox is another All-Star caliber guy who has dealt with some injury trouble. He has played in 37 of the Spurs’ 46 games this year.
Fox’s fantasy basketball outlook is especially intriguing since he plays for a talented Spurs team. San Antonio is competitive, which means Fox will receive meaningful minutes down the stretch as long as he can stay healthy.
Overall, the 28-year-old guard is recording per game averages of 20.2 points and 6.0 assists per outing while shooting 47.9% from the field and 36% from deep.
Jamal Murray, Denver Nuggets
Murray is arguably the best player on this list. The 28-year-old has stepped up amid Nikola Jokic’s injury absence and played at a high level.
While he is averaging 26 points and 7.3 assists per game, his production could decline once Jokic returns. He’s a guy fantasy managers want on their teams right now, though. Murray has averaged 28.6 points per game across his past five contests.

Of course, the point guard will still be able to produce at a respectable level once Jokic returns. He has never averaged more than 21.4 points and 6.5 assists per game in a single season, though, so a statistical decline cannot be ruled out once the Nuggets center is back in the lineup.
Josh Giddey, Chicago Bulls
Giddey, 23, has been limited to 32 games played during the 202-26 campaign. Nevertheless, he is having one of the best seasons of his career.
Giddey’s per game averages of 18.8 points, 8.9 assists, and 8.8 rebounds are all career-highs. The Bulls’ performance has dwindled following a hot start to the season, but Chicago is still in the postseason conversation at 23-22 overall.
Giddey will make a big impact in fantasy basketball down the stretch as long as he can stay healthy.
Keyonte George, Utah Jazz
George, a 22-year-old guard, has been one of the best surprises in the NBA this season. He has played in 45 games and averaged 24.2 points and 6.6 assists per outing.
For George, the question is whether or not he can maintain his production throughout the remainder of the season. He is currently in his third NBA campaign and had never previously averaged more than 16.8 points and 5.6 assists per outing.
Improvement is part of every young star’s game, so there is reason to believe in George, but the inexperience is notable.
The Jazz are also not in postseason contention, so his minutes will be something to monitor as the season moves forward. It’s not hard to make a sell-high case when it comes to George in redraft formats
