A video has emerged online seeming to show 2025 NFL Draft prospect Shedeur Sanders receiving a prank call telling him he’d have to “wait a little longer” to be drafted. Sanders’ slide has been the talk of the draft, as he continues to be passed on by quarterback-needy teams.
Shedeur Sanders Receives Apparent Prank Phone Call During NFL Draft
Sanders was initially expected to be one of the first players to hear their name called in Green Bay, Wis., with the player among the consensus top-two quarterback prospects. That, however, did not materialize, as Sanders slid out of the top 10, then the top 20, then the first round, second round, and now, possibly the third.
Not only has Sanders not been taken, but five quarterbacks have now been selected ahead of him, with rumors that more may follow. Recently, a video emerged of Sanders appearing to answer a phone call from a team, only for the call to turn out to be a prank. The video isn’t of great quality, but Sanders can be heard revealing what was said on the other end of the call.

Since the video emerged, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel were selected by the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns, respectively, who were both believed to be an option for Sanders.
Analysts Confused by Sanders’ Continued Slide
Sanders’ slide on Day 1 of the NFL Draft was met with amazement as team after team passed on the prospect. That amazement was never more apparent than when Roger Goodell announced that the New York Giants had selected Jaxson Dart, not Sanders, after trading back into the first round.
The fact that the quarterback was still without a team at the end of Day 1 was the talk of the draft, with speculation swirling about where he would be taken in Round 2. But, Round 2 came and went, and Sanders was still without a team.
Now, nearing the end of Round 3, Sanders’ eventual draft position is anyone’s guess.
What Will Sanders Bring to His New Team?
The circus surrounding Sanders is well known, but what about the talent that made him a first-round projection for so many analysts? Sanders’ PFSN Draft Profile explains the rough and the smooth.
“Perhaps the most polarizing prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft class, Shedeur Sanders comes in as our QB2. There’s no disputing Sanders’ production or his pedigree. The debate comes within his projection. Sanders makes his money with accuracy, confidence — a product of his processing and pre-snap ID skills — and composure, and his arm is more than good enough. But he’s not a high-level athlete or creator, and his arm isn’t quite elite.
“Sanders also has a tendency to drift in the pocket and play light on his feet, which can be harmful at times. A potential pro comparison for Sanders is Brock Purdy — the 2022 seventh-rounder who grew into a Pro Bowl passer with the San Francisco 49ers. Sanders is undersized and unequipped with elite talent, but with his accuracy, ID acuity, and gamer mentality, he can be a very good NFL starter in a system that offers support.”
Wherever Sanders ends up, all eyes will be on him when he finally takes to an NFL field.
