Brandon Beane was not in the mood to play nice, but was it justified? In his recent appearance on WGR550’s Jeremy and Joe Show, he called out the show’s hosts for criticizing the team.
“Well, you guys were bi***ing in 2018 about Josh Allen, you guys wanted Josh Rosen, and now you guys are bi***ing that we don’t have a receiver. I don’t get it. We just scored 30 points in a row for eight straight games.”
We Analyze the Bills’ Wide Receiver Options Heading Into the 2025 Season
The Buffalo Bills are bringing back four of the five pass-catching leaders from last season. Khalil Shakir paced the team with 821 yards, with Keon Coleman a distant second among wide receivers at 556 yards. Two of their top five receiving targets are tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox. The tight-end duo contributed 759 receiving yards.
Despite not having a 1,000-yard receiver last season, Josh Allen still threw for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns, earning his first NFL MVP award.
The Bills lost Mack Hollins to their AFC East rivals New England Patriots, while they chose not to re-sign veteran Amari Cooper after trading for him midseason.
In last week’s NFL Draft, they waited till the seventh round to add wide-receiver help, selecting Maryland’s Kaden Prather. They elected to load up on defense instead, selecting a defensive player in each of the first five rounds.
They saved Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston from the Green Room, selecting him with the 30th pick in Round 1. They then took defensive linemen T.J. Sanders from South Carolina, Landon Jackson from Arkansas, and Deone Walker from Kentucky.
It appears their strategy to beat the arch-rival Kansas City Chiefs would be to get a stronger pass rush on opposing quarterback Patrick Mahomes, instead of engaging in an arms race.
Potential Options for Buffalo Bills at Wide Receiver
While the options are limited, the Bills could still add one or two bodies to their wide receiver room. Cooper remains an unsigned free agent, and they could opt to bring him back if he chooses to lower his asking price. Former Cleveland Browns wideout Elijah Moore and six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen are the best among the remaining free-agent options still available.
If the Bills dip into the trade market, they could try to pry George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 24-year-old could be available after the team traded for DK Metcalf.
A dream scenario would be acquiring the ultimate speedster in Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill, although that seems like a remote possibility considering it would be a trade from a division rival, not to mention Hill will expect a new record-breaking contract.
