Ex-NFL QB Makes Bold Prediction on Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love’s Draft Outcome in 2026

Ex-NFL QB turned analyst predicts Jeremiyah Love will be the next running back to join an exclusive group at the 2026 NFL Draft.

Jeremiyah Love is one of the top college football players in the nation. Notre Dame’s star running back is among the top rushing leaders in college football and is projected by many to be the highest-selected running back in the 2025 NFL Draft.

One former NFL quarterback weighed in on Love’s draft outlook amidst his breakout season.

Could Jeremiyah Love Be a Top 10 NFL Draft Pick?

As the NFL season winds down and teams begin to be eliminated from playoff contention, the focus shifts towards free agency and the NFL Draft. Love projects to be one of the most sought-after players in the 2026 NFL Draft because of his three-down skill set and game-breaking ability.

“Think Love has the chance to be top 10/top 5 pick,” said former NFL quarterback and current ESPN NFL analyst, Dan Orlovsky.

While running backs aren’t always selected high in the NFL Draft due to fear of a short shelf life, things have shifted in recent years. Since 2023, Ashton Jeanty and Bijan Robinson were both top 10 picks, while Jahmyr Gibbs and Omarion Hampton were also first-round picks.

Robinson and Gibbs are among the best running backs in the entire NFL, and both Jeanty and Hampton have showcased dynamic upside as rookies. The recent success may signal that the tide is turning for running back prospects in the NFL Draft, and Orlovsky believes that Love could be the next one selected in the top 10 or even the top five.

The Notre Dame star ranks as the No. 2 running back in PFSN’s college football running back impact rankings with an 89.6 (B+) score.

Love ranks fifth in all of college football with 988 rushing yards, averaging 6.4 yards per carry. He also has 24 receptions for 254 yards and 16 total touchdowns.

The Notre Dame star established himself as one of the best running backs in college football as a sophomore and has only gotten better as a junior. He is on pace to shatter his previous career highs from last season, when he rushed for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns, while adding 28 receptions for 237 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns.

The former high school track star boasts game-breaking speed and has proven to be an effective pass catcher, making him a potential three-down back at the NFL level. While Love may have some areas to improve upon when he reaches the NFL, his combination of speed and power at his size, combined with his college productivity, makes him a very intriguing prospect to watch.

Potential landing spots will become clearer once the draft order is locked in and the free agency period ends, but assuming Love finishes off the 2025 season the way he’s started it, there’s no reason to believe that he can’t hear his name called early on draft day.
