Ex-Giants DT Slams ‘Absolutely Egregious’ Russell Wilson, Makes Bold Pitch for Jaxson Dart

NFL fans are patiently awaiting the New York Giants quarterback decision as Jaxson Dart is stuck waiting behind Russell Wilson.

This former New York Giants player has made his opinion on Russell Wilson crystal clear. Through three games, the Giants are 0-3, and while they showed signs of life in Week 2, their performances in Week 1 and Week 3 left a lot to be desired.

Despite having plenty of chances to compete against the previously winless Kansas City Chiefs, New York suffered another loss and now must prepare to face one of the best teams in the league. Ultimately, many of their problems appear to stem from their quarterback.

Why Does Chris Canty Believe It’s Time for Jaxson Dart?

Russell Wilson’s throwing for 450 yards against the Dallas Cowboys has not compensated for his terrible performance against the Washington Commanders and Chiefs. He barely completed over 50% of his throws at home against Kansas City, a mark he also failed to reach in Week 1.

Wilson’s season completion percentage currently sits at 59.1%, a number that would be much lower if not for his 73.2% completion rate in Week 2.

At this point, former Giants player Chris Canty has seen enough. “If your quarterback in Russell Wilson is giving you rookie mistakes why not put your rookie quarterback out there that represents your future at the position,” Canty said.

“What you’re getting from Russell Wilson is absolutely egregious. It’s unacceptable. He doesn’t represent a lot of hope for the Giants fans or players in that locker room in giving them a chance to be competitive against the LA Chargers.”

“Russell Wilson has been bad,” Canty continued. “The interceptions against the Chiefs were egregious. Throwing the ball out of the endzone on 4th down at the end of the game, goal to go when you need points, absolutely egregious. What we saw in the first game against the Commanders, the two-goal-to-go sequences when you only come away with three points, total, embarrassing.”

Head coach Brian Daboll didn’t mince his words about Wilson, a veteran who has not played well this season. As a former player and fan, Canty knows the organization is a mess. “I’m sorry, as a Giants fan, as a former player, I’ve had enough. It’s time to put Jaxson Dart in the game. If you didn’t think he was ready to play, then he shouldn’t have been your number two quarterback because we all know that guy is one hit away from being in the game.”

This situation highlights a fundamental reality for every NFL team: one injury is all it takes to sideline a starting quarterback. The Giants have struggled with quarterback issues for years, never quite finding a replacement for Eli Manning.

By selecting Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, they showed clear faith in his potential. Just three games into the season, a quarterback change could be exactly what this team needs to get back on track.
