‘Difficult to Put Into Words the Hypocrisy’ — NFL Analyst Rips ESPN’s Silence on Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini Scandal

As ESPN remains quiet about the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal, Tony Farmer is calling them out for staying silent.

Throughout the summer, arguably the biggest story in the entire NFL has been the alleged affair between Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini. With the internet tied to the story like white on rice, each day has brought fresh new developments.

However, despite the obvious interest from the larger football world, the kingpin of sports media, ESPN, has remained mum on the matter. One analyst, though, isn’t willing to let them walk away unscathed.

ESPN Continues Silence Over Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini

Aside from a solitary comment during the draft, the network has seemingly glossed over the entire scandal. Even as social media has been abuzz with the situation, ESPN has shied away from it.

Some believe it could be due to their direct partnership with the NFL, while others point to Russini’s ties to the company at the time, as she previously worked there. Whatever the case may be, it has been startling to see them remain quiet on the matter.

To make matters worse, though, former employee Max Kellerman called out the media for their relentless coverage of the situation. He believed their and the viewers’ interest was more about gossip and scandal than any moral dilemma.

Unfortunately, history wasn’t on ESPN’s side. Tony Farmer found a year-old post in which the company openly mocked the “Coldplay Couple” on its platforms. At the time, a scandal that unexpectedly surfaced at one of the band’s concerts was all the rage.

As a result, ESPN was more than happy to poke some fun at the development. However, with their silence this time around, Farmer openly accused them of hypocrisy, given their ties to the ordeal.

“The folks at Sportscenter poking fun at the infidelity of the ‘ColdPlay Couple’ while former ESPN talent Max Kellerman virtue signals about media coverage of Vrabel and Russini,” he wrote. “It’s difficult to even put into words the level of hypocrisy flying around right now.”

So far, even with the market leader’s lack of coverage, the situation has taken on a life of its own. After initially playing it off as happenstance, Russini stepped down from her role at The Athletic.

Moreover, the New England Patriots head coach admitted to having some tough conversations with his family and the franchise and sought counseling.

He also missed the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft to enter counseling. Now that the offseason is wearing on, it doesn’t look like people have lost interest in the topic. With the schedule release right around the corner, it’s possible the scandal becomes an easy trolling material for other teams and remains a distraction for the Patriots throughout the season.
