Last month, ESPN’s NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller suffered serious injuries after he was in a severe car accident with a semi-truck. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he underwent a life-saving amputation of his left arm. He also sustained “multiple fractures and broken ribs” and underwent several surgeries.
After the accident, many fans came forward and accused Miller of scamming them out of money over the years. Now, as Miller recovers and frustration mounts, he announced that he’s stepping away from ESPN indefinitely.
NFL World Reacts to Matt Miller Taking Leave from ESPN
After Miller’s family launched a GoFundMe and raised more than $50,000 following his accident, fans came forward to allege that the ESPN analyst scammed them.
Miller was accused of starting charity fantasy football leagues on Sleeper and then failing to pay out the winners. There were also accusations that he charged people for scouting lessons but then never followed through (but kept the money). Some victims came forward in a Reddit thread on r/DynastyFF, while others shared their experiences on X. Awful Announcing did a deep dive into the allegations against Miller and reported that he had more than 90 fantasy leagues on Sleeper last year alone.
On Friday, Miller announced that he would be stepping away from ESPN.
“To best focus on my healing and recovery, I’m stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN,” Miller wrote on X. “Thank you to all for the prayers and thoughts; please keep them coming.”
The NFL world immediately questioned whether he legitimately stepped away or if ESPN had disciplined him due to the allegations. His lack of accountability and silence about the accusations has struck a nerve with some people as well.
“Just unreal that this guy is still on here looking for sympathy. S-Tier level loser,” said one user.

Despite his devastating accident, Miller is getting destroyed on social media. He has been for a few weeks now, and his announcement has stirred the pot once more.

“ESPN fired you. Don’t hide behind ya injuries own up to ya [expletive] ups,” said one Kansas City Chiefs podcaster.
Another Chiefs content creator chimed in on the situation, “‘Placed on leave’ that doesn’t happen voluntarily…what a crook.”

The wording of the tweet has led some to believe that ESPN has played a role in this.

“‘To best focus on my healing and recovery, I’m stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN.’ That sure is one way to spin that you’ve been suspended indefinitely or fired,” added one user.

Miller limited who could reply to his tweet, which also bothered some people (along with the timing of his announcement). With his statement coming on a Friday evening, some speculated he was trying to let it fly under the radar to avoid further scrutiny.
“No surprise he’s locked replies and announces this on a Friday evening,” said one user.

It remains to be seen how this saga will play out, but Awful Announcing provided some clarity on Miller’s announcement: “Awful Announcing has learned that Miller’s leave from the company is due to his current medical condition, but when appropriate the company plans on following up on the issues raised on social media and our previous reporting.”
