What Happened to Emory Jones?

Jones was shown lying on the field and was shaken up. He was looked at by Falcons personnel. The quarterback’s response to the hit looked eerily like one suffered by Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa last season.

Jones originally signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in May 2024. After being waived by the Ravens in August 2024, Jones went on to play in the United Football League with the DC Defenders. In December 2024, Jones was signed by the Falcons to their practice squad.

Jones then signed a reserve/future contract with the Falcons in January 2025. In Friday night’s loss to the Titans, Jones was 2-for-5 passing for 16 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. He finished with a passer rating of 48.8 against Tennessee.

Jones came into the Falcons’ game to replace starter Easton Stick, who finished the game 19-of-32 passing for 173 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Atlanta did not play Michael Penix Jr. or Kirk Cousins in the game.

Will Jones Make the Falcons’ 53-Man Roster?

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris wanted to evaluate Stick and Jones, who both led the Atlanta offense against the Titans. Morris will decide Jones’ status on the 53-man roster ahead of the season opener.

In college football, Jones, who is 6’2″ and 211 pounds, played in 57 games (31 starts) over six years at Cincinnati (2023), Arizona State (2022), and Florida (2018-21).

He completed 601-of-953 passes for 7,099 yards, 51 TDs and 28 INTs, while rushing for 1,863 yards and 18 rushing TDs on 449 attempts (4.1 avg.).

The Falcons, 0-2 in preseason, will travel to AT&T Stadium next Friday, August 22, when they will play the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. Eastern and the game is scheduled to be shown on the NFL Network.

That will be Atlanta’s final preseason game as the Falcons will get ready to start the 2025 NFL season on the road against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
