The sudden collapse of the trade involving Maxx Crosby has quickly become one of the most debated developments of the NFL offseason. What initially appeared to be a major roster shake-up now leaves the Las Vegas Raiders facing an unexpected pivot. Yet one former NFL linebacker believes the situation might ultimately benefit the franchise.
Emmanuel Acho Says Maxx Crosby Situation Could Benefit Las Vegas Raiders
The Baltimore Ravens’ decision to back out of their trade agreement with the Raiders for star pass rusher Maxx Crosby has sparked widespread reaction across the NFL.
According to PFSN writer Caleb Yaccarino, the deal would have sent Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for significant draft capital, including first-round picks in 2026 and 2027. With the Ravens reversing course, those assets will return to them while Crosby’s contract remains on the Raiders’ books.
Yaccarino reported that the unexpected reversal has complicated the Raiders’ offseason strategy. The organization had been planning around the cap space created by the trade, and the sudden change could make some of their previously envisioned roster moves more difficult to execute.
The situation has also generated frustration among several executives around the league.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero shared the reaction of one general manager who was blunt about the situation, saying, “This is very much bulls**t on Baltimore’s part.” Other executives reportedly questioned why the Ravens would withdraw from the deal, given that Crosby’s injury was already widely known.

Amid the criticism surrounding the Ravens’ decision, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho offered a very different perspective. Speaking on Speakeasy, Acho suggested the outcome could actually strengthen the Raiders’ long-term outlook.

“This could be a huge blessing in disguise for the Raiders,” Acho said during the show. He argued that the team already possesses a promising core that could benefit from keeping Crosby with the Raiders. Acho highlighted several players he believes position the Raiders well moving forward.
“I believe you currently have the best linebacking core in football because you got Nakobe Dean, you got Quay Walker,” Acho said, adding that the team has also strengthened the roster at multiple key positions.
Acho also pointed to other pieces of the roster that could shape the Raiders’ future, including center Tyler Linderbaum, running back Ashton Jeanty, tight end Brock Bowers, and a potential No. 1 overall quarterback selection in Fernando Mendoza. He also mentioned the addition of nickel cornerback Taron Johnson from the Buffalo Bills as another important component of the team’s defensive structure.
League-Wide Fallout From Collapsed Trade
While Acho focused on the Raiders’ roster strength, the league-wide conversation has centered on the Ravens’ decision. Writer Jason La Canfora reported that two general managers questioned the explanation surrounding Crosby’s failed physical and warned that the move could damage trust with other teams during future negotiations.
The Ravens moved quickly to address their pass-rushing needs. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Baltimore signed former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson to a four-year, $112 million contract on Wednesday morning, pivoting to the top available pass rusher after the Crosby deal fell through.
For now, the Raiders face the challenge of adjusting their offseason plans after the trade collapse. But if Acho’s assessment proves accurate, the unexpected turn of events could ultimately help the Raiders maintain a roster foundation that still includes one of the league’s most dominant defensive players.
