‘The Culture Is Bad’ – Ex-NFL LB Gets Brutally Honest About Mike McDaniel’s Future With Dolphins

Former NFL LB Emmanuel Acho has spoken about his doubts on Mike McDaniel’s future with Dolphins following the first round of fixtures.

Following the Miami Dolphins’ embarrassing 33-8 Week 1 loss at the hands of Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts, fans have begun to question whether or not head coach Mike McDaniel will last the season.

Many expected the Dolphins to struggle in 2025 after a tumultuous offseason, as PFSN had McDaniel’s team ranked 19th out of 32 in their pre-Week 1 power rankings, but their showing against the Colts was much worse than expected.

The Dolphins’ performance prompted one former NFL linebacker to share his honest opinions on why he believes the Dolphins will be searching for a new leader before the season’s end.

Emmanuel Acho Casts Doubt on Mike McDaniel’s Future with Dolphins

Following the Dolphins’ road loss in Week 1, former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho appeared on the YouTube channel “Speak Easy,” expressing his doubt about McDaniel’s future with the team.

“I don’t see Mike McDaniel making it through the season,” Acho said right out of the gates, expressing his concern for this current Dolphins culture.

While a long season lies ahead, and only time will tell if the Dolphins can turn this ship around, the concern in Miami is beginning to grow.

Acho went on to claim that the Dolphins play a soft brand of football, saying, “They’re a small, non-physical team.”

“So when you come up against teams that are either bigger than you or more physical than you, you end up getting punched in the mouth,” Acho said, pointing to the lack of physicality and size as a reason for their struggles.

Acho pointed out Colts running back Jonathan Taylor as someone who was able to exploit the Dolphins’ lack of physicality on defense. Taylor ran 71 yards on 18 carries while collecting 27 receiving yards on three receptions in the Colts’ Week 1 victory over McDaniel’s Dolphins.

“This, to me, was one of the most embarrassing losses of the Miami Dolphins & Tua Tagovailoa tenure; it was for sure one of the most embarrassing losses of the Mike McDaniel tenure,” Acho said, emphasizing how bad the loss was.

The Dolphins struggled on both sides of the ball for nearly the entire game, and the numbers were far from pretty. Tagovailoa threw two interceptions and coughed up a fumble. The Dolphins didn’t put points on the board until the fourth quarter after allowing 30 unanswered points.

Do McDaniel and the Dolphins Need a Culture Shift?

Acho was not done, criticizing the Dolphins’ culture, saying, ” I don’t know how many more days Mike McDaniel has. I think we’ve seen the peak of the Miami Dolphins because right now the roster is bad, right now the culture is bad, right now you could suggest the head coach is bad.”

Acho did not hold back on the problems evident in Miami, suggesting that McDaniel is heading into borrowed time if this keeps up.

The Dolphins must get off on the right foot in Week 2 if McDaniel wants to turn his hot seat cold again as the team hosts their division rivals, the New England Patriots.

McDaniel is currently in his fourth year as head coach of the Dolphins and has yet to win a playoff game in two opportunities. Will McDaniel make it through year four and into five? The Dolphins will need a drastic turnaround to make that happen.
