Emeka Egbuka’s Status For Sunday Night Football vs. Eagles

Egbuka briefly left the Bucs’ Week 2 win against the Houston Texans for an on-field evaluation and was diagnosed with minor hip and groin injuries. The issue caused him to miss two of the team’s three practices leading into Week 3, and although he was limited on Friday, he was ultimately cleared to play.

In Week 3, Egbuka led Tampa Bay in receiving yards, finishing with six catches for 85 yards. He hasn’t been placed on the injury list since and is expected to start against the Eagles on Sunday. With Mike Evans sidelined for 3–4 weeks due to a hamstring strain, Egbuka is set to assume the WR1 role.

The latest Bucs injury report also lists DB Christian Izien as out for Sunday’s game. In contrast, QB Baker Mayfield (right biceps), WR Chris Godwin Jr. (ankle), OT Tristan Wirfs (knee), and DE Logan Hall (groin) are all listed as questionable.

Egbuka Making  Early Case for Offensive Rookie of the Year

Drafted 19th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, Emeka Egbuka has wasted no time making his presence felt, gradually emerging as a frontrunner for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield has quickly developed a connection with the rookie, and the timing couldn’t be better. With veteran wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans dealing with injuries, Egbuka has handled the spotlight with poise and confidence.

His speed, precise route-running, and ability to make big plays in key moments have made him one of the league’s early breakout stars. He has already recorded three touchdown receptions in three games, including clutch, go-ahead scores in Week 1 that helped Tampa Bay defeat the Atlanta Falcons.

In terms of production, Egbuka has been impressive across multiple metrics:

  • He has 21 targets on 99 passing attempts, accounting for 21.2% of the team’s target share.
  • In two of three games, he has scored a touchdown, including multiple TDs in one contest.
  • Egbuka’s three total touchdowns represent 42.9% of Tampa Bay’s seven offensive scores.
  • In the red zone, he has been targeted twice, catching 18.2% of the team’s 11 red zone pass attempts.

With his early production and knack for big plays, Egbuka is quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s most exciting rookie wideouts, and Sunday’s game will serve as his first true test as the team’s WR1.
