How Did Eli Manning Help Set This Unusual World Record?

Former New York Giants quarterback Manning accomplished just about everything there was to at the NFL level, winning a pair of Super Bowl titles and capturing Super Bowl MVP honors in both victories. He also holds several franchise records for the Giants, who retired his No. 10 jersey number and inducted him into the Giants Ring of Honor upon his retirement in 2021.

While Manning is well known for being part of the Manning family that includes legendary father Archie Manning and his fellow Super Bowl MVP-winning quarterback brother, Peyton Manning, Eli has now helped set a world record in a unique way.

As part of his ESPN+ series Eli’s Places, Manning joined former Auburn quarterback and current Denver Broncos starter Bo Nix to decorate Toomer’s Corner on the campus of Auburn University with over 3,000 rolls of toilet paper, which officially set a new Guinness World Record.

“This is special. This is unbelievable. I know we have a lot of incoming freshmen that are here today,” Manning said. “This will be, kind of, your first official rolling of Toomer’s Corner as a student here at Auburn, so I’m excited for that.”

Manning clearly understood the significance of the moment for Auburn students and fans. “[The governor has] got an official plaque, so we’re setting the record. It’ll be a great day,” Manning said. “This is a thrill for one of the great traditions in college football, the rolling of Toomer’s Corner. I know y’all will have many more opportunities to do it this year, so this is just the first of many, especially for you freshmen out there.”

What Makes Toomer’s Corner Such a Special Tradition?

Soon after the celebration ended, Auburn history professor Keith Herbert officially informed the crowd that the world record had been set. “On this day, July 8, 2025, a remarkable and spirited gathering, Auburn University students, faculty, alumni and fans joined by Eli Manning, Bo Nix and Patrick Nix successfully united in Alabama’s most iconic campus tradition,” Herbert said, reading from the placard. “In accordance with all available records, these individuals achieved what was previously undone by any other persons in history.”

The tradition originally stems from former Auburn rusher Terry Henley, who earned First Team All-SEC honors and Second Team All-American honors in 1972. Henley infamously once said that the Auburn Tigers would “beat the No. 2” out of the rival Alabama Crimson Tide. After the Auburn victory, the area was decorated with toilet paper as a clever pun on Henley’s words.

This record-setting event shows how Manning continues to connect with college football culture even years after his NFL retirement. The former Giants quarterback brought his trademark enthusiasm to Auburn’s campus, helping create a moment that will be remembered long after the toilet paper was cleaned up.
