The Denver Broncos are looking to take that next step this upcoming season, and a lot of that falls on the shoulders of quarterback Bo Nix. He finished his rookie season completing 376 of 567 (66.3%) of his passes for 3,775 yards with 29 passing touchdowns to 12 interceptions en route to third place in the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and leading the Broncos to the playoffs.
Denver was a middle-of-the-road offensive team as PFSN ranked the organization 16th with a 75.3 Offensive+ grade last regular season. With room to improve as he gets more equipped with coach Sean Payton’s philosophy, there’s one Super Bowl champion who spoke glowingly about the quarterback before he heads into his second season in the NFL.
McCaffrey Discusses Bo Nix and the Broncos
In an exclusive interview with RG, three-time Super Bowl champion Ed McCaffrey discussed what he sees when looking at Broncos quarterback Nix.
“I see a strong arm. I see incredible accuracy, really good footwork. He doesn’t take a lot of sacks, one of the least sacked quarterbacks in the league. That was something that Sean Payton emphasized before last season. I think they accomplished that.”
McCaffrey went on to explain how Broncos coach Sean Payton wants the offense to look as Nix continues to develop going into Year 2 in the NFL.
“When he calls the play, he wants the quarterback to see the field the way he sees it. Bo Nix does that this way, that’s why Payton likes him so much, so they’ll continue to work with him and the rest of the team.”
“I’d like to see him have a really solid, quick passing game, but then be able to stretch it, get the protection he needs and take some shots down the field. That’s where having a lot of speed guys on the outside and guys running deep, crossing routes across the middle of the field, I think if he gets the time he needs, will help stretch things.”
The Broncos did add some weapons for Nix to have this upcoming season as they signed tight end Evan Engram as well as drafting running back RJ Harvey in the second round of the draft.
This team has a lot of talent and after seeing what Nix can do under center as a rookie, there should be a lot of excitement surrounding what the future could hold as the organization gets off of Russell Wilson’s contract and has more money to bolster the roster.
