Eagles Urged To Pursue Blockbuster Trade for $123M All-Pro After Disastrous 2025 NFL Campaign

T.J. Watt could be a surprising trade candidate for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Philadelphia Eagles might be the perfect landing spot

The Philadelphia Eagles will need to rebuild parts of their roster after the 2025 disaster. Many key players underperformed, especially on offense, and the draft will be important for addressing some key issues. But Howie Roseman is also an aggressive general manager, and trades could be another way to add talent.

Eagles Projected To Land T.J. Watt in New Trade Proposal

Since Josh Sweat left through free agency, the Eagles have been named in discussions regarding a new pass rusher. They added Jaelan Phillips midway through the season, but he also left in this year’s free agency. Philadelphia needs to bolster their pass rushing group before the start of the season.

Adding a pass rusher in the draft is a possibility. However, in a recent article from Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, the Eagles are named as a potential landing spot for T.J. Watt.

The Pittsburgh Steelers superstar could be involved in discussions based on his age and injury history, and if the AFC North team listens to offers, he could join a new team while staying in the same state of Pennsylvania.

“The Wisconsin product has been to eight Pro Bowls in nine seasons, was named the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year, and his 115 career sacks are the most in Steelers history,” Davenport wrote. “However, Watt is also a highly paid 31-year-old coming off an injury-marred season where he posted just seven sacks, tied for the second-fewest of his career.”

Watt is an eight-time Pro Bowler, has made the first team All-Pro four times, and also won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021. He signed a three-year, $123 million contract extension with the Steelers last year.

Of course, for Watt to be moved, there needs to be a deal, and the Steelers won’t simply let him go. The article names a first-round pick as fair value but states that Pittsburgh, with Nick Herbig and Alex Highsmith on the roster, could handle the situation.

“To be clear, moving Watt for anything less than a first-round pick. would be selling low,” Davenport wrote. “It is also fair to question whether the current version of the Steelers profiles as a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Add in that the Steelers have an in-house replacement already on the roster in Nick Herbig, and maybe dealing Watt isn’t so ludicrous after all.”

Watt remains a productive pass rusher, even though he has crossed the wrong side of the 30s. He was ranked as the No.9 pass rusher in 2026 per our PFSN EDGE Impact Metric, finishing the season with 7 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions in 14 games.

The Steelers are still an unknown for the 2026 season, with their quarterback situation depending on Aaron Rodgers’ decision. For the Eagles, every opportunity to add a pass rusher must be studied, and Watt would be a fantastic pickup.
