The Philadelphia Eagles love having all-world running back Saquan Barkley to help the offense dominate on the field, but it’s always good to have a solid backup.
On Monday, the Eagles made a pretty surprising trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to add help.
Who Did The Eagles Trade For Right Now?
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman turned his eyes toward Florida and pulled off a deal to bring Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby to the City of Brotherly Love.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport had details first about the deal.

Bigsby was in his third season with the Jaguars, totaling 223 carries for 910 yards and nine touchdowns. In the Jaguars’ opener, a 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers, Bigsby had five carries for 12 yards and no touchdowns.
Bigsby was a very important part of the Jaguars’ offense last season behind quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He led the team in rushing yards with 766 and seven rushing touchdowns last season.
The Eagles sent fifth- and sixth-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Jaguars in return for the running back. This marks the second trade that Jaguars general manager James Gladstone has pulled off with the Eagles as they also sent offensive tackle Fred Johnson to Philadelphia for a seventh-round pick.
According to sources who talked with NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo, the deal was done to give the Eagles another option as a kick returner. Will Shipley had one kick return against the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday night. Shipley, though, has a rib injury and it’s not known whether or not he’ll be ready to go next Sunday.
Bigsby also might have been worth trading since Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. had an outstanding day against the Panthers. Etienne had 143 yards rushing and probably established himself even more as the Jaguars’ top rushing option.

Roseman has been busy making a series of deals since Aug. 17, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Eagles picked up wide receiver John Metchie III and a sixth-round pick from the Houston Texans for tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth-round pick.
Philadelphia added quarterback Sam Howell and a sixth-round pick from the Minnesota Vikings for fifth- and seventh-round picks, and traded offensive tackle Darian Kennard to the Green Bay Packers for a seventh-round pick.
What does the Bigsby trade mean for fantasy football players? PFSN’s Jason Katz offered some thoughts about Bigsby and what he brings every time he’s out on the field.
What Does Bigsby Trade Mean For Fantasy Players?
“Ever since the Jaguars drafted Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen, there were rumors that they might trade one of their incumbents,” Katz said. “Travis Etienne Jr. appeared the more likely back to be moved. Then, the entire preseason came and went without any activity. It took exactly one week of the regular season for that to change.
“The Jaguars used all four of their running backs in Week 1,” Katz said. “With Tank Bigsby now out of the picture, this affirms Etienne as the lead back, as well as opens the door for Tuten to see a more meaningful role.
“Prior to this trade, I was ready to call both Bigsby and Tuten drops,” Katz said. “Now, not only is Tuten a hold, but Bigsby is as well… Will Shipley is dealing with a rib injury. That undoubtedly served as a catalyst for this move.”

“Bigsby is a one-dimensional back, but he’s more talented than AJ Dillon,” Katz said. “The former Jaguar is basically a younger, faster, more explosive Dillon. He should quickly ascend to the RB2 role behind Saquon Barkley.
“Obviously, Bigsby has absolutely no hope for standalone value, which wasn’t the case in Jacksonville,” Katz said. “However, he still should remain on rosters if you have the space for him, as he is one injury away from being a weekly RB2.”
With Bigsby, the Eagles have further fortified their backfield going forward as Philadelphia looks to repeat as Super Bowl champions this season.
