The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most impressive rosters in the NFL in recent years. Wherever you look, the Eagles have a star, which leaves them with little room to improve.
With 2024 Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley, star quarterback Jalen Hurts, elite receiving options, and the best offensive line in football, adding depth is the only way to improve the Eagles’ offense in 2025. PFSN’s Brandon Austin agrees and has linked the team with a respectable pass catcher in free agency.
Eagles Linked With 31-Touchdown Free-Agent Receiver
The Eagles rotated several depth pieces this offseason, including at receiver. Parris Campbell made way for former Carolina Panthers receiver Terrace Marshall. Marshall is likely to compete for the No. 3 role in the Eagles’ wide receiver room, with A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith the team’s clear star receivers.
Jahan Dotson is first in the queue behind Brown and Smith, having been the next man up in 2024, but there’s no guarantee he will keep his spot. If Marshall doesn’t step in, 2024 rookies Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson will also look for more action in their second year with the team.
According to Austin, though, Philadelphia should be looking elsewhere for their No. 3 receiver, with former Cincinnati Bengal Tyler Boyd the player he would choose.
“The Eagles don’t have a solidified No. 3 receiver on their roster right now. Jahan Dotson caught just 19 passes for 216 yards on 33 targets. Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson also saw limited action as rookies. This isn’t a massive hole given Philadelphia’s overall talent on offense, but it could make this team even more dangerous in 2025 if filled correctly.
“At 30 years old, nine-year veteran Tyler Boyd remains a dependable option as a team’s third wideout. He’s not going to stretch the field or command snaps in two-wide sets in 2025, but he can certainly be another steady and trusted target for Hurts. Boyd has 6,390 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns for his career, and he’s averaged at least 10 yards per reception in every season.”

Age shouldn’t be a concern for Boyd, who wouldn’t be signed to be an explosive playmaker. As a reliable third option, though, Boyd has a glowing resume, having played that role for Cincinnati behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The receiver would find himself in an almost identical situation in Philadelphia, having struggled to carve out a bigger role for the Tennessee Titans last campaign.
The Eagles may be happy with their current options, but Dotson’s 57.6% catch percentage ranked 90th of all wide receivers with at least 30 targets last year. Boyd’s 68.4% catch percentage ranked 32nd on that list. Again, Boyd doesn’t boast the explosiveness that many other receivers do, but he is a safe pair of hands when called upon.
