One of the top talking points all season has been the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense. Although the team is 8-3 and atop the NFC East, this has been an evident weakness compared to last season’s Super Bowl-winning team.
One area where this has been true is the passing game, and QB Jalen Hurts has had better performances later in the year. It is still something to watch moving forward. Due to the offensive struggles, WR A.J. Brown has been disgruntled at different points of the season. His long-term presence on the Eagles is up for question, and Philadelphia might need to go back to the draft for some WR help.
The Eagles Get WR Depth Behind A.J. Brown Through the Draft
The 2026 NFL Draft may not be looked at as a strong one, but the WR position is exceptionally talented, and the Eagles would have many options to choose from. If Brown does leave the Eagles this offseason, which is still nowhere near a guarantee, current WR2 Devonte Smith will become the #1 option.
This would be a good enough scenario to make the Eagles feel comfortable moving on from Brown, but they would need to add more WR depth in the offseason. It would not be a shock if that first happened in free agency, but acquiring younger talent in that area would also be smart. In the fourth round, there could be an underrated prospect available.
Looking at analyst Ian Cummings’ new 7-round mock draft, the Eagles selected Georgia Tech WR Eric Rivers. This season, Rivers is not having a noteworthy year after transferring to Georgia Tech, but the Eagles would be banking on his success in 2024.
Last season at FIU, Rivers was ranked 34th overall among WRs, with the 5th-most receiving touchdowns (12), 9th-most receiving yards (1172), and 5th-most yards per game (97.67), all on only 97 targets (47th overall), per PFSN’s CFB WR Impact Metric.
These numbers were awe-inspiring, and 2025 was supposed to be the season to really improve his draft stock, but that has not happened.
Just looking at Rivers’ total touchdowns, you can see how much better last year was compared to his other CFB seasons. Throughout his college career, Rivers has had 15 total receiving touchdowns, and this season, he has only one.
Still, there is a massive amount of talent with Rivers, and that is what the Eagles would be betting on here with a day 3 selection. He can also make an immediate impact on special teams as a punt returner.
