NFL Draft Rumors: Eagles Trying to Trade for $76,000,000 Pro Bowler Separate From ‘Likely’ A.J. Brown Blockbuster

The Philadelphia Eagles and GM Howie Roseman seem to have set their sights on Minnesota Vikings EDGE/OLB Jonathan Greenard.

As always, when draft week comes around, excitement is in the air as potential franchise-changing decisions loom, and major news gets revealed.

This past weekend, we saw the New York Giants trade away star DT Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals for the #10 overall selection, completely changing the first-round outlook. More trades around the league are bound to occur throughout this week, and one seems to be in the works already. The Philadelphia Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman seem to have set their sights on Minnesota Vikings’ Pro Bowler Jonathan Greenard.

Eagles Ready to Make a Move for Jonathan Greenard

Throughout this entire offseason, one potential trade was a major topic of conversation, but never ended up happening: The Eagles moving on from A.J. Brown.

Many believed a trade would still be likely after June 1, and recently, NFL Insider Adam Schefter revealed that a Brown trade with the New England Patriots is “likely” to happen.

A trade like this would have major ripple effects across the NFL, and for the Eagles, it would be a major loss. But this team is nowhere near ready to stop competing. Also, according to Schefter, the Eagles are ready to make more moves this week, and one could be for Greenard, who was made available by the Vikings earlier this offseason:

“One possibility is adding Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard, whom the Eagles have checked in on at various points this offseason, per sources,” Schefter wrote. “Greenard had 12 sacks in 2024, but he managed only three last season over 12 games, despite a solid 23.3% pass rush win rate. The Vikings have been adamant about getting a premium Day 2 pick for Greenard. Philadelphia holds pick Nos. 54, 68, and 98 on Day 2 this year.”

Last season, Greenard had 3 sacks, was ranked 7th overall among all EDGEs, and was 27th in tackles for loss, according to PFSN’s EDGE Impact Metric.

With the Eagles needing upgrades on their defensive line, he would be an ideal addition. Contractually, it will be an expensive deal because Greenard has two more years left on his $76,000,000 contract, but the Eagles can make that work.

Regarding the trade price, Philadelphia has the assets to get it done, but with how long these trade talks have been, they may not want to give up a pick like 54 or 68.

The Eagles may be more willing to give up a 2027 third-round pick to get the deal done, due to potential future draft capital coming their way in a Brown trade. Also, with 2027 draft picks being valued highly around the league, the Vikings may be very interested in that potential deal, especially if Greenard is already on his way out.
