Eagles Insider Delivers Concerning Update on Reed Blankenship’s Contract Situation After Super Bowl-Winning Season

Reed Blankenship’s championship contributions should have secured his long-term future in Philadelphia, yet the Super Bowl winning safety finds himself in contractual limbo as the Eagles maintain an unexpectedly quiet stance on extension talks.

Blankenship’s situation reveals a puzzling disconnect between on-field impact and front office priorities, raising questions about how the organization values players who delivered when championships hung in the balance.

Contract Extension Talks Stalled Despite Championship Performance for Reed Blankenship

In April, Blankenship agreed to a one-year extension with the Eagles, adding another season to his agreement and increasing its total value to two years and $4.56 million. Of that, $3.935 million is guaranteed. While it represents a respectable salary, it falls far below market value by NFL standards, particularly for a starting safety on a championship team. He is only expected to earn $1.475 million in 2025.

However, it appears that the Eagles are not in a rush to give him a more extended contract than that. As of a few weeks ago, there had been no discussions on a new extension between Blankenship’s camp and the team, Eagles insider Anthony DiBona revealed on “The Philly Special Show.”

“Last I heard, there has been no talks about a contract extension,” DiBona said. “That was about a couple of weeks ago… according to a source, there have not been talks between the Eagles and Reed Blankenship at this point.”

Considering how important Blankenship was to the team’s championship run, such silence proves unexpected. With 52 solo tackles, six pass breakups, and four interceptions at the end of the season, he served as a consistent, dependable force on the defensive end.

He may not carry the most prominent voice or the most eye-catching name, but he consistently delivered when stakes reached their highest, including a spectacular showing in the Super Bowl that helped defeat the formidable Kansas City Chiefs.

Eagles’ Wait-and-See Approach Creates Uncertainty for Championship Contributor

According to those familiar with the matter, Blankenship’s team is seeking a new contract that more accurately recognizes his worth. There’s always potential that this could become a bigger problem if the Eagles remain unwilling to communicate, particularly if he performs better than expected in 2025.

The Eagles seem to be taking a “wait and see” stance for the time being, perhaps in an effort to ensure that Blankenship continues improving. However, the absence of engagement sends a message to a player who has previously proven himself on the biggest stage in football, and it may not sit well as the club attempts to repeat.

Blankenship isn’t saying much publicly. But as training camp inches closer, his situation will be one to watch.
