Trade rumors have swirled around Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert for weeks, but it wasn’t clear if Philadelphia would move on from the veteran as he entered the final year of his contract. Now, after general manager Howie Roseman’s comments following the NFL Draft, a trade feels more likely than ever.
Howie Roseman Comments Further Rumors of Possible Trade
Goedert, 30, has been a steady presence for the Eagles since being drafted in 2018, but his name has been floated around the trade market this offseason as the team weighs its options at tight end. Multiple reports said the Eagles were open to dealing Goedert, even for future draft picks, with FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz and other insiders reporting that Philadelphia had fielded offers before the draft.
While the 2025 NFL Draft has come and gone, and Goedert remains on the Eagles roster, Roseman didn’t offer much clarity in his post-draft press conference, saying, “Dallas is part of the team as we speak. Obviously, as we go forward, we’re going to continue to address things on this team and right now nothing further”.
Roseman’s comments did little to quiet speculation about whether Goedert will stay for the final year of his deal, which carries a cap hit of just under $11.8 million. Goedert’s contract is now out of guaranteed money, and reports say the team is interested in a pay cut to keep him around.
Despite the speculation, the Eagles did not select a tight end in the draft, leaving Goedert atop a depth chart rounded out by Harrison Bryant, Kylen Granson, and Grant Calcaterra. Still, Roseman offered no assurances about Goedert’s future.
Goedert is set to carry a cap hit of nearly $12 million in 2025, again with no guaranteed money left on his deal. His injury history, missing 15 games over the past three seasons, has only added to the uncertainty.
The Eagles were complimentary of Goedert, with Roseman saying, “Dallas is a heck of a player — a heck of a player, a heck of a person. Certainly don’t want to do anything publicly where we’re discussing anyone’s business, but I have so much respect for him.”
However, Roseman’s non-committal stance and the team’s offseason moves suggest a willingness to move on if the right offer emerges. Now that the NFL Draft is over and no successor in place, the possibility of a Goedert trade appears to be gaining traction as Philadelphia continues to reshape its roster for the future.
