‘Treat Praise Like Perfume’ — Eagles HC Nick Sirianni Fires Off Powerful Reminder to Team Ahead of Super Bowl Defense

The Philadelphia Eagles have a massive opportunity to dominate the NFL for the foreseeable future. Not only does the team have the best roster in the NFL, but its key players are young stars with their best years, in theory, ahead of them.

In a recent episode of the team’s offseason series, “Unscripted,” head coach Nick Sirianni was shown delivering a bold, sobering message to set the tone for the year ahead.

Nick Sirianni Sends Warning to His Eagles Stars Ahead of 2025 Season

The inspiring video starts with Sirianni speaking to the camera, sharing some insight into the mindset that it takes to be a champion.

“It’s the monotony of every single day, going through the same process, because it’s the process that dictates results. There’s no shortcuts in it, so we’re starting right back there at the beginning.”

The Super Bowl-winning head coach can then be heard addressing his team, declaring the end of their Super Bowl celebrations. He then delivered a powerful message to warn his players of the dangers of complacency. “So, first, I want to say, the celebration is over, OK? The celebration is over; preparation is here. The celebration is over; preparation is here.”

Sirianni was sure to let his team know that their mindset needed to change in 2025. “Last year, as we came into the 2024 season, there was a lot that we talked about handling adversity. Now, it’s a little different,” he said

“You’ve got to handle success. Right? It’s a different animal. Right? You’ve got to handle success. Everyone right now, for the guys that have been here, are telling you how good you are. Treat praise like perfume. Sniff it. Don’t drink it. It’s poison.”

The Eagles were out to prove a point in 2024, and they did exactly that. Now, with the expectation of another Super Bowl on their shoulders, the team’s young roster will have to deal with other teams looking to steal the crown they once chased.

Philadelphia’s Defense To Lean on Youth Again After Super Bowl Success

What made last season’s Eagles team so special, besides the veteran talent, is the way its young stars continuously stepped up to the occasion. Jalen Carter was among the most feared defensive linemen in the game, while rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean looked like seasoned pros throughout the year.

DeJean’s pick-six in the Super Bowl perfectly encapsulated the team’s season on defense. Patrick Mahomes was forced out of the pocket by a ferocious pass rush before a rookie defensive back made a massive play in a massive moment.

The Eagles added some more potential defensive stars in the NFL Draft. Jihaad Campbell was expected to be taken in the middle of Round 1, but he fell to Philadelphia at No. 31, which traded up a spot to take the Alabama prospect. The team then landed intriguing safety Andrew Mukuba with their lone Day 2 pick.

Both of those players could be immediate contributors for the Eagles and have landed in the perfect environment to grow — a team looking for back-to-back Super Bowls.
