It’s hard to argue with the Blue Devils being the moneyline favorite in this Duke vs. Boston college football matchup. They’re staring down the barrel of bowl eligibility while the Eagles are facing the reality of their worst record since 2015. These are two programs on very different trajectories, so despite exorcising the Blue Devils in Durham just two years ago, a repeat of BC’s 2011 home defeat to Duke is likely.

Duke covering the -9.5 spread line also feels inevitable. Boston College is 1-7 against the spread this season, with Duke currently sitting at 5-3. Their win over Louisville aside, the Eagles have lost by more than tonight’s 9.5-point spread line against all their ACC opponents this season. Meanwhile, Duke’s two ACC wins have come with an average 22.5-point margin of victory, including on the road at Miami (FL).

Although the Duke offense is averaging 34.4 points per game, Jeff Hafley’s tenure as head coach of the Eagles is more likely to be over than the score hitting the over of 47.5 points. The previous eight editions of this Duke vs. Boston College matchup have failed to top 40 points, and the odds are very much stacked against this game being any different.

On a night when Michael Penix Jr. is in action for Washington, selecting either quarterback from this Duke vs. Boston College clash for your DFS picks is ill-advised. Eagles QB Phil Jurkovec didn’t practice Monday or Tuesday and is listed as day-to-day. He’s also in the midst of the worst season of his career behind a patchwork offensive line. Riley Leonard has been a top-25 fantasy QB this season, with 18 total touchdowns, including eight rushing scores.

From a wide receiver perspective, Fanduel lists Duke’s Eli Pancol at $5000, but save yourself the money and heartache — he’s not listed on the Duke depth chart for their Friday night ACC duel and hasn’t scored a touchdown in eight games this season regardless. Jalon Calhoun leads the team with 31 receptions and 443 receiving yards. However, receiving touchdowns have been spread around this Blue Devils team, leaving no surefire things from a fantasy perspective.

The same cannot be said for Boston College. There’s a reason why Zay Flowers is $9000 on Fanduel. He’s the focal point of whatever offense the Eagles can muster, leading the team by a sizeable margin with 54 receptions, 726 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. He’s clearly the wide receiver from this Duke vs. Boston College class to add to your DFS picks.

The Boston College rushing defense provides ample opportunity for Leonard’s dual-threat dalliances and for Jordan Waters to flow to the end zone. Waters has double-digit carries in all but two of his game this season. While he’s failed to crack 100 yards, the Duke running back has multiple two-touchdown games and has three scores in the last two games. The streak should continue tonight.

Prediction for Duke vs. Boston College

Having analyzed the odds and fantasy picks for this Duke vs. Boston College, the prediction should come as no surprise. The Blue Devils book their bowl eligibility in comfortable style, marking the first time since 2018 that the program has had a postseason presence.

Boston College’s offensive line losses — whether to the NFL Draft or injury — have been far too much to absorb. As a result, the ground game has limped to 2.3 yards per carry and just 67.5 yards per game. The impact on the passing game has been equally stark, with Jurkovec averaging a career-low 6.4 yards per attempt that has been bolstered by Flowers’ ability to add yardage after the catch.

Duke’s defense has given up the second most passing yards per game (262.9) and passing touchdowns (16) in the ACC, but right now, it’s difficult to have confidence in the Eagles being able to take advantage of those Blue Devils’ deficiencies. Scoring just three points against UConn last week was a low point for a team that had high-preseason expectations.

Defensively, the Eagles have been equally dire this season. Their 28.8 points per game allowed are the second most in the conference, and their opponents have been successful in finding the end zone in 90.32% of red zone trips. The Eagles have given up the second most rushing touchdowns in the ACC, playing into the strength of the Duke offense in the hands of Leonard and Waters.

Prediction: Duke 24, Boston College 10
