Drew Allar’s NFL Draft Potential

Drew Allar was once viewed as a potential early-round NFL Draft prospect, after joining the Penn State Nittany Lions as a five-star recruit. And as a five-star, he passed the eye test from his first day in Happy Valley. At 6’5″, 235 pounds, with a rocket arm and effortless velocity generation, Allar is as prototypical of a passer as there is. He has the arm strength to fit the ball into tight windows, as well as the arm elasticity to adjust his release angle, and at his best, he flashed the requisite processing and window anticipation to operate on-schedule.

Having said all this, Allar did not develop nearly enough across his collegiate career, and notably regressed in several operational areas — most notably his dropback and pocket mechanics. Allar’s footwork is very poor, and it causes a cascade of negative effects through reps — from his timing and sync with route concepts and progressions, to his overall accuracy and precision. Those issues became debilitating down the stretch for Allar, and a broken ankle suffered in October ended his collegiate career prematurely and ended any chance of him achieving a resurgence.

Allar underwent surgery for his ankle injury, so he should be able to make a full recovery in the long term — but the injury and subsequent recovery timeline do put his immediate availability for the 2026 season in question. That’s adding onto the many on-field question marks present on Allar’s scouting report.

As of now, Allar grades as a fringe draftable prospect on my board. There’s a chance an NFL team takes a chance on him with low-risk capital toward the end of Day 3, but his starting upside is very distant, and there’s a lot of work to do on the operational side before he has a chance to play meaningful reps on Sundays.

Where Is Allar Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?

Allar currently holds the No. 218 overall rank among prospects, reflecting his standing among mid-round prospects. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 221.6 as of November 11 reflects that he is typically being selected in the middle rounds.

This small gap between rank and ADP suggests he’s consistently valued among evaluators, even amid fluctuations in player evaluations at this stage of the draft cycle.

Users controlling the Minnesota Vikings have been the team that selected Allar the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 1.0% of their picks across all seven rounds.
