What Is Dontayvion Wicks’ Status for Thursday Against the Washington Commanders?

Injuries are a constant in the National Football League, and this season is already showing why every roster spot matters. Most players are dealing with bumps and bruises as the year goes on. It’s not unusual for some to try to play through pain. But when someone can’t, the Packers have to adjust on the fly.

Coming off Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions, Wicks is still managing a calf injury. He caught two passes for 30 yards, but the injury limited him to just 22 snaps. That raises questions about how serious the issue is and what it means for the rest of the receivers. Rotowire provides the latest update.

“Though Green Bay listed Wicks as a limited participant on its second straight practice report, head coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t indicated that the third-year receiver is in danger of sitting out Thursday’s game against the Commanders. Wicks saw modest involvement as part of a deep rotation of pass catchers in Sunday’s season-opening 27-13 win over the Lions, playing 21 snaps on offense on his way to a 2-30-0 line on two targets.”

With Christian Watson unavailable, Wicks sits fourth on Green Bay’s depth chart. That might not seem like a huge loss, but with the current injury situation, losing him would only make things harder for the offense. Matthew Golden was limited at practice with an ankle injury, and Jayden Reed is also trying to manage a foot injury. Malik Heath, a third-year wideout, could have to step up and fill in if Wicks can’t go.

If Wicks can’t play, the Packers might lean on their practice squad for help. Mecole Hardman, a veteran receiver, could give the team valuable snaps against Washington. Hardman brings 28 career starts and 166 career catches to the table.

The spotlight won’t bother Hardman. He owns three Super Bowl rings from his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, and he made the Super Bowl LVIII game-winning touchdown catch. At 27,, he might be exactly the kind of boost this receiving corps needs at a time like this.

The Packers count on Wicks on the back end of their depth chart to make plays when targeted. His injury, plus the other receivers working their way through pain, has held the offense back to start the 2025 campaign. The big question now: If Wicks does play on Thursday night, can Green Bay bank on him for more than a few snaps, or will the team need other receivers to carry the load?
