Miami Dolphins wide receiver Malik Washington was at his best on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
While Washington was on the field when Miami lost to the Panthers 27-24, helping Carolina now go to 2-3 for the season, it’s not about how many passes he caught. The 24-year-old wideout managed to set a modern-day record in the most unusual way.

What Record Did Malik Washington Set?
Would you believe that Washington finished the game with no receiving yards? That’s right. Of four catches from Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Washington could not gain any yardage.
That’s wild, especially in today’s fast-paced NFL offenses. But it happened on Sunday. Before Sunday’s game, Washington talked about having a bigger role in the Dolphins’ offensive schemes.

“Being in the books, making sure I know my assignments for each and every position so I can be prepared… now it’s just doing the things that I already dreamt of doing,” Washington said.
The second-year player is the first wide receiver since the turn of the century to have at least four catches and 0 yards. The previous low for a WR with 5+ targets and 4+ receptions since 2000 was Quez Watkins with four receptions and 6 yards in 2022.
Washington was drafted by the Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Virginia, where he played for one season after starting his college career and playing four seasons at Northwestern. In his collegiate career, Washington had 230 receptions for 2,774 yards and 12 touchdown receptions.
For the season, he has 12 total catches for 47 yards and one touchdown. Washington has been targeted 20 times in the Dolphins’ offense. On Sunday, in the loss to Carolina, he was targeted five times by Tagovailoa.
While Washington had an off day when it came to yardage, teammates Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane did not. Waddle had six catches for 110 yards and a touchdown, while Achane also had six receptions for 30 yards and a TD. Miami’s Darren Waller also got into the fun, nabbing five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown himself.
Washington will look to get into the yardage category next week for the Dolphins.
