Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins have had a strained relationship for a while now. The receiver has gone back and forth on whether he wants to be in the Dolphins, but it now seems the relationship is at an impasse.
Tyreek Hill Implies He Wants to Return to Kansas City Chiefs
The Dolphins are looking for a new head coach, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was benched during the 2025 season. On Thursday, Hill made it clear that he doesn’t want to stick around with the Dolphins amid all the changes.
Hill has had a couple of disappointing seasons in a row with the Dolphins. In 2024, the receiver failed to crack 1,000 yards for just the second time in his career, and in 2025, he played only four games due to a serious injury. Last January, Hill requested a trade from the Dolphins. Obviously, no deal went through, but it just shows that Hill has been unhappy with the Dolphins before. On Thursday, the receiver fanned the flames of rumors that he wanted out.
What started the exchange was a report that former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky “would love” to be considered for the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator gig. Fellow former quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick then replied by saying that he would love to be considered for “Sexiest Man Alive.”
Hill then responded to Fitzpatrick, saying that since everybody is putting in requests, his is “to go home.”

It would seem obvious that Hill is referring to the Kansas City Chiefs, considering that’s the only other NFL team he’s played for.
Hill spent the first six years of his career with the Chiefs and won Super Bowl 54 with the team. The star receiver has been with the Dolphins since 2022 and performed at an elite level during his first two seasons with the team.
However, the last two seasons have been a disappointment. Hill and the Dolphins as a whole have struggled, and with a new head coach and general manager coming in, it seems like a good time to split with Hill.
Could Hill Return to the Chiefs for 2026?
It seems like Hill wants to return to the Chiefs, but do the Chiefs feel the same way? The team could certainly use more help at receiver, and Hill and Patrick Mahomes have plenty of chemistry.
However, due to Hill’s contract, it may be tough to move on from the star. Hill is slated to have a cap hit over $51 million in 2026, and the Dolphins would eat a $28 million dead cap hit if they traded him before June 1.
Even if the Dolphins cut Hill before June 1, they’d still have a huge dead cap hit. The team may decide it’s worth it to get rid of the disgruntled star, but the Chiefs would likely prefer to sign Hill rather than trade for him.
